BlueTyke March 6th, 2009, 09:18 AM I happen to like a series of books called "Weird...." .... being a state. There is one for practically every state as well as one for the whole of the USA. It has given me a few ride ideas. I have gone on 'weird' rides just to see these things/places. I was wondering if there were any other weird places you have been to.

zartan March 6th, 2009, 09:50 AM Carnation Farms now a retreat. I believe it it owned by the Paul Newman Foundation and houses a Camp Corey... along with business faculties beautiful farmland. It is great to see it perserved...
Sound Wave March 6th, 2009, 10:56 AM those are cool. i would take pics, but i don't think hawaii has anything weird like that... none that i know of anyways. i know on the other islands, they have "goose crossing" street signs.
ninjabrewer March 6th, 2009, 10:56 AM I wasn't riding at the time, but if anyone is ever in S. Alabama, go through Enterprise, there is a monument to the Boll Weevil, the pest that wiped out cotton as the main crop.

kkim March 6th, 2009, 02:31 PM I know there is one coming out of the Waipio Zippy's from their parking lot onto the main road there. I don't recall if I've ever seen any others. It made me wonder wtf that was, too.

ninjabrewer March 6th, 2009, 03:00 PM one time, at band camp, back up.....
Out riding a few weeks ago, got caught in the rain and hid out in a covered waiting area at the glider port at Dillingham ...

Sound Wave March 6th, 2009, 03:03 PM take a pic of your bike next to it... not nearly as cool as a shoe-shaped house, but it can't be helped.
BlueTyke March 6th, 2009, 04:18 PM There can't be to many shoe shaped houses... (Of course when it was built it was a marketing ploy for Hans Shoes...But thats...another story)
Strider March 7th, 2009, 06:17 PM Where's the shoe house?!?!?!
i missed that on my last trip up there!
BlueTyke March 8th, 2009, 03:05 PM Right off of Route 30... You probably passed the sign and the house (everybody does even though you can see it from the route) you can get to it on old Lincoln Highway

websniper March 19th, 2009, 04:57 PM Dude, that house is close to where I'm at.... Hate R. 30 though....that can be a mess, even in the cage.
athimmel March 19th, 2009, 05:51 PM BlueTyke...I admit...I have NEVER heard of Gravity Hill. Here in California, all we have is a Terminating Governator. Do the claims on the website (not the really silly ones) really happen? Just curious.

Adam no worries... I was born and rased in California moved out just over a year ago.
And yes... It was really weird but it does just as it says. I didn't get the full effect on Tyke... But I brought a ball and a few ladies had some water...
I would... show you the... blog for it but... :: panic :: the site doesn't seem to be working!!! Alll my blogs! All...my adventures....
good thing I don't put all my blogs in one spot :D
Sunny & Tyke find Gravity (http://www.mdriders.proboards53.com/index.cgi?board=photos&action=display&thread=91)
Btw find something Weird (http://www.weirdca.com/) near you
camaroz1985 March 20th, 2009, 06:44 AM Sunny thanks for posting about this. I looked for the book on Amazon and also found "Ghost Towns of Pennsylvania" which I bought and I will try to go find them all this summer.
BlueTyke March 20th, 2009, 06:57 AM Good luck with that one Ryan! You can have the haunted places! Phil has been to the haunted Prison up there in PA. Said that was pretty neat.
(I am not one for scary! But I have checked out a lot of the covered bridges in Bedford County)
camaroz1985 March 20th, 2009, 10:14 AM Not necessarily the haunted, but "ghost" in that they were once booming and are now deserted.
The covered bridge thing is another one I want to do. Find all of them in PA. Being close to Lancaster gives me pretty good access to a bunch.
BlueTyke March 20th, 2009, 01:28 PM I still have to do the lancaster bridges... :D
PA is very good about their histories and locations. I found a lot of the Bedford ones online. Most of them have a Wiki page too... One day I will hit them all :D
I think Taps/Ghost Hunters did a few episodes up in PA somewhere.. Not sure where though I try to avoid that show
websniper March 21st, 2009, 06:49 AM Camoroz, you should have a blast with the covered bridges. I used to cycle(the pedal kinds) quite a bit and a local club puts on a ride that goes through a lot of the covered bridges in the area for about 65-75 miles(depending on detours and stops for ice cream, heh heh), it's a nice ride for either kind of bike!
NJD022588 March 22nd, 2009, 10:43 PM Came across this thread too late. I think this (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15760) would fit well in this thread.
BlueTyke March 23rd, 2009, 07:21 AM I would love to find that one someday Nick!
noche_caliente March 29th, 2009, 09:29 AM Sunny - all you have to do is come down this way and we'll take you to it! That's close to the video I posted too :)

Tigress August 27th, 2009, 04:27 AM Ok Sunny. You have my interest. I went and picked up the book "Weird Missouri". It has all kinds of neat stuff in it and neat places to visit. So as soon as my riding skills are better and I can venture out more distance, I will be visiting some of these places and taking pics.
Now do go thinking it will be next spring. :) Some of the places are in the St. Louis area and I hope once I get used to The Kid, we'll be good to go. I'll have to pick up Weird Oklahoma (my home town) and Weird Illinois since that's pretty close too. Thanks for giving ideas of places to ride and reading material!!
BlueTyke August 27th, 2009, 01:39 PM Zoe... Are you serious!? Not much of a seceret now huh!? that is classic!
Belinda! Glad I could help! Just so you know the Weird series doesn't get everything all the time so you can also web search that kind of stuff :)

Yeh. I always thought it was a photochop / joke, but it is real :)
It's an old unused bunker, but still a funny sign nevertheless.

Lobster fishing is the main source of income for the local fishermen around here and most part of the maritimes.
