Glad you're not too banged up. This is basically exactly what happened to me one month ago. How did the driver react? And as for insurance, I too will be upgrading to full-coverage when I get my next bike.
I think the only way we can help prevent accidents like this is to slow down at intersections. Is it annoying to have to slow down all the time? Yes, but it's even more annoying to be sent to the ER and have your bike killed. Hope you heal fast an keep us updated on whether or not the other party has insurance.
