Shims from Dealer VS Shim Kit
Pretty straightforward question here, should I order the shims once I figure them out or buy a shim kit first for my valve adjustment?

if you can live without a bike for a week or if you dont mind doing it twice, you dont need the shim kit and can order individual shims. if you want to do it all at once and get it done in a day or weekend then you will need a shim kit.
i bought the shim kit... will serve both my bikes for several valve jobs to come

Ah, maybe I'll just give up and get the shim kit. I could go a week without the bike, I don't want to though, since its my primary way of getting around. However with the winter coming up, I don't know if I'll be riding too much then. How much cheaper is getting just the shims I need from the dealer?

I don't see why one has to necessairly wait a week for shims. most dealerships carry a hot cams kit similar to one we'd buy online and sell the shims out of the kit individually at 2-4 bucks a pop. I went with that, since it cost me less than $20 to get the shims I needed. Time will tell if I keep the bike long enough to warrant the expense of getting the whole kit. As long as you can pull your cams and measure for new valves before shops close for the day, this still can be done in a day.

My dealer had shims in stock. Why wouldn't they... they are doing the adjustments when the owners choose not to.
