Looks like KTM will also release a fully faired sport model and an enduro/touring model based around the same 390cc motor...

KTM's are nice to look at, and they have nice specs on paper, but in my experience they are awful to ride. Transmissions are notchy and rough, fueling is all over the place and snatchy, and single cylinders really don't make great engines for street riding.

I would caution anyone interested in this bike to not just look at the specs and make a decision, spend some time on a KTM to see if you like the complete package.

I have to disagree with that statement. But I guess it depends on what you do on the street. If you ride on the freeway a lot then I'd have to agree. But I rarely ride on the freeway and love my single cylinder bike for riding under speeds of 60mph.

Wasn't so much talking about high speed riding, just in general, although pushing a single cylinder to near red line on the highway will be a very vibration filled experience.

Single cylinders are very prone to vibration, and due to the nature of the engine it's basically impossible to design them with a nice even power delivery (only one piston to make power). Pretty much the only reason to use them is to make a cheap, simple, light weight motorcycle but in my opinion the cons outweigh the pros.

Like I said, try before you buy.

No confirmed US MSRP on the 390 yet. In the EU, it is cheaper than the Ninja 300 on the sticker. Hopefully, KTM prices it competitively this side of the Atlantic.

On a separate but related point, the faired version of the 375cc engine is said to take cues from their Moto3 250 production bike.

Im with him...ditch the huffy/schwinn bars, and a set of clipons would make that thing perfect. I'm so tired of these manufacturers making small displacement sportbikes with huffy handlebars.

They spend all that time putting a rigid trellis frame, brembo brakes, marchesini wheels, tweaking it out for racing...and then slap those %&*($ kids bicycle handlebars on it.

^read this as well, i like the naked look but if the faired version looks half as good i might be looking to kick the 250r to the curb....for the right price anyway. If i can't get a good price, i guess i will be forced to keep it

So if you go to KTM site and click USA, only 690 duke shows up in naked BUT, if you go to another country say India, and click naked the 390 is listed as "Coming soon to India"

I know there has been talk of 390 or other faired version coming to USA, will it just maybe get here later so it is not listed as "coming soon" on USA site. Am i reading to much into this?

bah, not that i would probably be able to get one anyway

In india the same company, bajaj auto, sells both, the ninjas and the KTMs, so what's happening is the 300 launch is being delayed constantly and I believe they will launch the KTM first... Intact bajaj owns more than 40% of ktm and manufactures he 125/200 dukes for them and will also be manufacturing the 390... They will also have their own versions of the 200/390 dukes namely the pulsar 200ns and pulsar 375...

Look at it. It's got like 5" suspension travel. It's not a SM Jono. It's a sport bike.

Yeah it's not SM. But that upright position is great in the city. And that is what this bike will be wonderful at. Flying through traffic, popping wheelies everywhere, and drifting around turns. It's a hooligan bike. (That's how I see myself riding it anyways.) http://www.ktmforums.com/forums/13301-post2.html

Now if they make a real sport bike version with full fairings then yes, clip-ons are a must.

You can put clip-on's on yours, but I'll keep MX bars on mine.

I think it's pretty sweet, will be interesting to see if it sells.

I don't think I'll be trading my KLX for on though, just need that 351 kit.

I don't think the 351 kit will get you close to 43hp and over 100mph top speed. I'm excited to see what the dual sport version will look like. I don't think I will be giving up my KLX for this bike either. But we shall see.

If I had the extra cash I'd definitely be getting one.

The 1290 sounds so mean, and I love the two color rims.

I'm not much for the street fighter look, but I could get into the RC390

Flick between the 2 above photos to watch the extra running gear just disappear. It's kind of fun. It's like - I wish my bike didn't have all this extra junk on it - and presto - it's all gone!

Side note: Has anyone ever seen a stock fender this long before? It seems insanely huge for this bike.

Clever trick

If I had to guess, it is because the want the license plate section to be out beyond the tire. Just a guess though.

Any new info on the faired RC390 coming to North America? I believe original talk was 2014 release. Does that mean the bike will be a 2014 which in case could be released as early as Nov. 2013 maybe? or Actual arrival date might not be till 2014 which could mean bike may be 2015 release as late as next Nov. 2014?

I really want to test ride one of these things. If I don't mind the feel of the single between my legs I might be making more room in the stall for a new pony
