Who has the lightest Street Ninjette?
As a general proposition, the best mod you can do to your baby ninja is to reduce its weight. Extra points for reduction of rotating mass.
Just weighed my 08 250r on a calibrated industrial scale. Mine has all of the street stuff on it: lights, wiring harness etc. 320.2 lbs with a FULL tank of gas. Gas is 6.3 lbs/gallon. The 08 version has a 4.7 gallon tank. Empty my tank and my bike weighs +/- 290 lbs. Let's hear some of your measured weights.....How low can you get these suckers? |

I'm aiming to get it to 310 Fully wet.
To do: replace the Galespeed Forged Aluminum Wheels with BST carbon wheels, replace the 520 chain/sprockets with a 415 setup. That should get me 7 more lbs. Need three more.... Anyone want to buy a set of like new Galespeed type S forged wheels to fit the 250 or 300? They're gold anodized and are 11lbs lighter than the 08 wheels. 3.0 front/4/0 rear. |

If you happen to have original wiring, there's a meaningful amount of weight you can lose. Just takes a bit of re-designing. And you can go crazy and replace it all with aluminium wires.

Probably the guy with the Italian rims, he was trying to make it as light as possible… I doubt I’d ever spend that much on two rims

LOL....My 2012 250R is closer to the 400lb mark or a bit over ...and I've added weight to that....a rear rack and a top box and a set of sliders but that is a noble gesture, to get the bike as light as possible !
it's all about the power to weight ratio in the end.... I once had a bike that I stripped everything off of it and just ran with a plastic bottle of gas and rode it up our dirt road... it was noticeably more powerful than it ever was before ! (it made a whopping 12 hp if I remember right) but the thing was not that impressive with everything on it but stripped to the frame changed that bike noticeably I bet I took off 100lbs of stuff ...I was making a street bike into a dirt bike because i could not get licenses for it.... made a World of difference in it's get up and go ...i eventually put the gas tank back on it and the seat as sitting on the frame was painful on that road ! .... it didn't last too long but it was a blast for a while ! lol.... Bob....

Idk those golden magnesium wheels were superfly… they used to cost like 5k… I didn’t pay that for my bike

I think his Type S are forged aluminium wheels. Mag versions don't come in Ninjette sizes, last I checked anyway.
My last race-bike came in at 323-lbs with 4-ltr petrol. Due to AFM's Superstock rules, I was limited in what I could do. No engine-mods allowed, no frame or harness mods. After 2nd season, I was planning on going to Superbike, which allowed any mods as long as frame & engine matched. Chopped off another 11-lb or so, but didn't get chance to weigh before selling it. |

so 312 lbs ? for Super Moto.... and I guess for stock it's going to be right at stock weight

Yeah, around 312. There's some more to be had with chopping unneeded tabs and brackets off frame. Looks like ASMA's also killing off 250 class like AFM did, darn!!! That bumps me up into 350 classes. I'll have to inquire about doing 300 engine-swap or using 250 2-stroke.

What 250 2 stroke would you use ? is there a 2 stroke twin that is useable for that ?
how about the 350 Kawasaki twin 2 stroke with rotary disc valves ? tuned right that thing put the RD350 to shame ! I had one and it was a powerful engine ! .... problem with one of those would be finding parts now they no longer make them and that's not what you want on a race bike ! .... i think i'd be more inclined to go with a 300 ~350 modern engine for that very reason..... I love 2 stroke engines their fantastic and it's a shame that they have shied away from them because of EPA stuff. I mean when the H2 could bolt on a set of tuned pipes for their big triple and get 15 more HP that was outrageous ! ....nothing else about the bike was outstanding but that engine was a game changer ! .... Yeah, I love light bikes and 2-strokes in particular. Got started riding as kid on 2-stroke dirt-bikes well before I got licence.
I've got one of these rollers built up from pile of parts without engine: https://japan.webike.net/HONDA/NSR25.../m-spec/y1991/ About 280-lbs with double Ninjette power. But as you mentioned, engine & parts are rare. So I went with modern RD/RZ350 engine out of Banshee. HUGE aftermarket support, can even build entire engine completely from aftermarket parts! Power starts @ ~50hp and up to 100hp with bore & stroke. Then add boost.... Trick to emissions with 2-stroke is EFI! Time injection just before transfer port closes and you have very little sneaking out exhaust port. KTM and Husky has some nice 2-stroke dirt-bikes with EFi that passes Euro-5 emissions requirements. I'ed have to ride one to believe a F.I. 2 stroke would be any good at all as much as they have starved my RX4 for fuel I can't see where a 2 stroke would fair any better ! I know my bike would really haul with a carb on it but the F.I. unit on it is so leaned out it's pitiful ! I bet it's getting enough fuel to run a 250 ok but for a 450 it's just not enough ! so far I am not impressed with F.I. on motorcycles.... they just did it wrong ....but it is fuel efficient, I guess...
...i don't know ...it feels off.... and it is real hard to pin point what is off about it, it's got good bottom end (only good, not great) it just feels anemic ! .... Bob.....

You can program EFI to be as rich or as lean as you want. Just bad programming on RX4. Comparing Ninja 250 carby vs EFI version, you can squeeze +5hp more out of EFI with same mods.
Even last holdouts using carbs went to EFI decade ago: NASCAR! It's not the technology that's the issue, it's how you use it. |
