Priceless!

An advice that could have saved many riders and their 100 HP bikes.

May it save future mistakes.

Nice read! Now if only everyone followed that advice. Sigh.

I'd say it's even worse on a bike. You'd probably have more room for error in a fast car.

While I agree with most of it I seriously take exception to the idea that a V-twin thou is in the same ballpark as a 600 I4.

Whoever wrote the final line of the V-twin 1000cc is an idiot or a Hardley rider.

Quote:
All told a 1000cc V-twin is as bad as a 600cc I4 to start out on.
compare a V-twin superbike like a TLR 1000 (the widowmaker) or a Honda SP-1 or SP-2 or an Aprilia RSV (mille or the newer 1000r) with a similar age 600 supersport, they take some getting used to even for an experienced 600 supersport rider.

Even with current 600s making similar bhp to the older V-twins the torque on a litre twin has surprised a few riders I know

A single slip up on the throttle is always going to end badly, how many of us never botched our throttle control (even a little) while learning? roll off too sharply & you lock the rear, roll on too quickly & you have the bike on it's back wheel (or beyond) in an instant.

Whatever about learning on a 600 supersport a V-twin thou is a recipe for disaster.

Put a newbie or a squid on one of these & very soon it's a ruined bike & a dead rider.

This is one of those things I would print out and store on my bike. So if a person who had never ridden before says they want a 600 or a 1000 I would give them this.
