WC clipon question

I put on some WC clipons this past weekend, man are they great, but anyway. Whats the purpose of drilling the hole in the bars everyone is talking about? I didn't drill anything and they seem to work fine. Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm pretty sure that hole is to keep the switch aligned and unable to rotate.

Each of the controls have a little pin. You need to drill the hole so that the pin can be put into it to stop the controls from rotating. This would be especially important for the throttle side. Your throttle could bind up if it's not concentric on the bar (from the pin lifting one side of the housing).

Hey, thanks for that. I didn't realize that and it doesn't say that on the install instructions I don't think.
