Weird classification/legal thought and question....
I was just coming home and saw a HD with one of those trike kits on it. This was one of those bolt-on kits that is basically a giant set of training wheels that can be removed fairly easily. The bike retains its rear wheel and no power is delivered to the trike wheels (there are then 3 wheels at the rear).
So because I always think of strange questions, I began to wonder if this guy's bike would now TECHNICALLY be considered a car, because it now has 4 wheels and 4 axles. Now for the sake of conversation, if it were now a "car," that would technically open up a can of worms when you get pulled over (seat belt, emissions, etc., etc., etc.). Of course even if you were pulled over by a power-hungry cop who had a bad day, I can't imagine the judge would not throw it out immediately..... well, unless you where in south Florida. Thoughts? |

They sell various low powered "cars" down here (s Florida) with 4 wheels, but no safty requirement. They say they are classified as motorcycles, though as you, I thought that only applied to 3 wheels and less.
Here's one they sell down here that is "street legal"...the place that sells one even has a tag on it. Pretty cool little thing that claims over 60 mpg. I would just worry about reliability.
