When were motorcycle controls standardized?

Does anyone know when motorcycle controls were standardized to what we are familiar with today?

In particular, I'm talking about things like having the clutch lever on the left, the front brake on the right, and the rear brake on the right pedal. (I am aware that certain motorcycles may have things like the turn signals and the shifter set up differently.)

Is it bad that I enjoy reading legalese?

It's kind of interesting that it was pretty much standardized in the 70s. Wow.
