Scorpio alarm i900 and integrated LED lights problem and fix

I'm not sure how many people have an alarm system, but my bike has the Scorpio i900. I recently installed the customled rear integrated tail light and it caused the alarm system to misbehave. It would arm and disarm ok, but if you turn the bike on, then off, the system would just go off and not disarm at all.

I called Scorpio tech support and they weren't helpful. The guy who answered didn't even sound like he cared. He said that it was because of the LED tail light and he mumbled something about voltages. He didn't bother to offer up any solutions either.

In any case, hours of Google searching came up empty with only one person mentioning something about "creative use of diodes," which really didn't make much sense to me either.

What it comes down to is that the alarm system must require resistance in the two constant +12v and ground wires for the tail light. Normally, the stock candescent bulb provides that resistance. The fix is to wire in a 25w/ 25ohm resistor. You just bridge the ground and constant +12v with the resistor and that fixes the problem. This is also known as wiring a resistor in parallel.

I'm thinking that I need to go to a 50w resistor. The 25 gets way too hot.

you are dissipating about 6W in that resistors... That might be a little high. I assume that a higher value resistor will work equally well and dissipate less power

I know for a fact that the FCC has the schematics for the alarm. Those might come in handy in figuring out what is it they are exactly doing and why they need that resistance.
