DuPont Teflon Chain Lube - Formulas have changed

Saw on another site.

The DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver is still usable as a chain lube, but according to Webbikeworld is nowhere near as good as the old Teflon multi-lube. If you're a Teflon multi-lube lover and are inclined to hoarding, you may want to grab up a few cans.

Guess I'll be going to Lowes and and grab what's left of the old formula. After that it will be back to Maxima.

I'm still searching around for leftover old stock. Found ONE can at an Ace Hardware & snagged it. Lowe's has already changed over to the new stuff, dammit.

If the can says 'Dry Wax' on it, you better grab it...it's getting rare already.

Well, I've been using the yellow can "chain saver" for about 6,500 ish miles now and it's worked perfectly for me, so I'm going to keep on using it.

Dangit...I've been duped. My can is the new stuff.

I started using Dupont based on all the suggestions online. But I was wondering why the stuff was so watery and why the chain was picking up stuff contrary to the information I got. Now I know...

Found some. At this price though, just buy new chains instead.

Yeah, I have that too. Just put it on recently after using Du Pont's chain cleaner. Seems to be doing good so far.

I bought the dupont lubricant in December and it's the new stuff, so most lowes are likely out of the old stuff by now.

I picked up 2 cans of DuPont Teflon Chain Saver at a Walmart, in the little motorcycle section.

They had about a dozen cans, but there was a small difference between the two. One can said, "Dry, Self-Cleaning Lubricant", the other said "Wax-Based Chain Lube".

The "Wax-Based Chain Lube" can says, O-Ring Safe, No Fling Off!
The "Dry, Self-Cleaning Lubricant" can says, Doesn't Attract Dirt, No Fling Off
According to Dupont's website, the "Dry, Self-Cleaning Lubricant" is the latest product.

I compared the DuPont Teflon Chain Saver Wax-Based Chain Lube to the DuPont Teflon Multi-use Dry Wax Lubricant. The two products spray and adhere to the chain the same. The consistency was very close and both dried to a waxy feel. Both clean well too. Both smell, look and taste the same, have the exact same ingredients listed on the can. The only major difference I can see as of now, is cost. The DuPont Teflon Chain Saver Wax-Based Chain Lube cost .99 cents more than the Multi-Use for an 11 oz. can.

We recently upgraded the formula to be a semi-dry lubricant with added corrosion protection but no longer features the "dirt-resistant, dry-wax" feature.

You will notice the most recent cans or bottles appearing on shelf do not contain the "Dry, Wax" claim on the label.

Many users have reached out wondering where their dry, wax formulation went. If you want to obtain that same dry-wax formulation, you should switch to DuPont Teflon Chain-Saver. This product contains the same Teflon fluoropolymer, molyebdenum and wax mixture that users have come to appreciate for its wear protection, water repellency and dirt resistance.

We were able to leave Chain-Saver as is. The formulations are very similar -- Chain Saver has more moly and more Teflon so it has better wear protection. Everything else is exactly the same."
= bad, don't use new formula for chains.

= good and cheap, but no longer produced. Buy up all old stock now.

= good and more expensive, still produced.

That is good stuff. Same formula as the spray can chain-saver, but it is a bit thicker (no need for propellant), lasts longer and is easier to use on motorcycle chains. They came out with that at the request of motorcyclists. For me, that is the top choice right now.

You're saying that it's thicker than the spray-can? When I used it, it was practically water...not very viscous at all.

lol, yup. Spray can stuff is mist, at least the bottle stuff comes out in drops. You don't want goopy lube, its a mess. This stuff goes on clean, dries clean. I'm still using up old formula stock of the multi-use dry, wax, but just got a couple bottles of the bottle chain saver and used it for my last lube. Works like a charm.

No. Check the link in the first post. If they have the "Dry, Wax Lubricant" (none in my area do) buy all that they have. The new "Lubricant" is not the same and most say does not work as well.

Used the new can I bought and it doesn't look anything like the old dry wax formula that I am accustomed to. It's more clear and watery.

Was at Walmart getting oil when I noticed that they had the DuPont Chain Saver lubricant with two different labels - one saying "Wax-Based Chain Lube" and the other read "Dry, Self-Cleaning Lubricant". Both were in yellow cans with identical photos on the front. Any idea which is better?

Damn, I'd been using the newer formula this entire time (about 4 applications). I went over to two different Lowe's and neither had the older formula. Looks like I'll be giving the Chain Saver a try. What would you guy recommend? Spray can or portable 'squeeze' bottle? Or is it the same?

I use the chain saver can. It is a bit watery when spraying but once it dries on the chain, it seems to be fine. Hardly any fling off when riding.

I haven't been able to find it at any Lowe's. I checked the local Autozone and they didn't have it either. Any suggestions on where else to look (other than online)?
