Quick Tips for the n00bie backroad slayer…

Before you leave
Find a friend, don't go alone.
GEAR UP!!!!!!!!!
Have an ICE tag on your helmet.

Communication
Let someone know it’s your first time, everyone was new once.
Learn the motorcycle hand signals. (Google "motorcycle hand signals")
If someone is right up on you LET THEM PASS!!!!! Signal for them to pass.

Be ready
Check your tire pressure and make sure your tires are road worthy.
Show up for the ride with a full tank of gas.

Riding
Relax……
Look where you want to go
Keep a safe distance from the rider in front of you.
Don't full throttle the straights just to slam on your brakes and camp the corner's.
Slow in fast out, enter the turn at a speed you are comfortable with.
Outside, inside, outside
Never pass someone on the outside of a turn.
Ride your own pace.
Do not worry about keeping up, if you’re riding with a good group, they will wait for you at EVERY route turn and have an experienced “sweep” rider.

Above all!
Leave your racer, faster than you, know it all ego at home. Be open minded and modest.

Good tips. We cover most of these with the new guys who join our group rides here in NYC. This should be stickied, but you might need some more tips to add on to it.

Yea, I thought I would gather all the REALLY good ones that are scattered around the threads in this forum so we could just link it when needed instead of rehashing them again and again.

The thing is, I have learned you can overwhelm a new rider who is already sorta nervous to begin with. So I try to keep the list short and sweet.

I was thinking about just adding some tools to your kit before you go out riding. Like black tape and zipties.

But your idea about keeping it simple makes sense.

Motorcycling is mostly mental.
Brain is mostly water.
Fear and anxiety generate sweat.
Stay hydrated.......It is very important !!

Yeah but now I have a better idea what you're talking about. I think I was nervous when you told me that. Heck, I was nervous the whole morning session. The pictures show it.
