KTM 390 Duke

It's official. The small displacement category keeps getting more interesting. Unveiled at the EICMA show, the 390 is expected to hit the US next year. It gets premium parts like Bosch ABS brakes, WP suspension, and Brembo brakes . Downside is that on KTM EU website, it also lists premium fuel.

With aftermarket parts, these are going to look sick. Leave the bars for the sumo feel, get clipons for the sport feel. That rear fender has gots to go though... wtf hahahahahha

330 lbs soaking wet, and 45 hp... I would bet this will out perform the new Honda 500.

Man, that is one sexy looking bike.

Very nice little bike, hopefully they don't kill it with a high price. I was very close to picking up a KTM. They have very good fit/finish and come with some of the best components on the market. Brembo everything, stainless lines, Marchesini wheels, & great suspensions.

Here's the big brother to that....they are bringing back the Super Duke R in 1290cc......the sound is amazing. I would trade my CB1000R for that in a heart beat.

I've always loved the naked feel of a bike but would never do it to my ninjette. This, this however I could do!

any word on them bringing the 690 duke back? the 390 is nice and all, but I think the 690 might be a bike that I can settle on and never replace, I feel like the 390 might be a bit too small. my main reason for going larger is to get something that can handle some highway miles a bit better than the ninjette, at that light weight, I'm not sure the 390 duke is the answer...

I would even take the Duke 200. But i think this 390 will be perfect! Pretty sure they are going to have the same frame and many other parts. Larger front brake on the 390.

EDIT: The frame is slightly different. Taken from the KTM US website, "In short: no other bike offers more riding fun for your money than the 390 Duke! At a full 44 hp from 375 cc of displacement, it’s head and shoulders above its 200 cc sister model, while the chassis has of course been enhanced to cope with the extra oomph."

I'm gonna go with, yes .... http://www.ktm.com/news-events/eicma...90-duke-r.html

But it may not make it to the USA. http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bike...tm-690-duke-r/

Duke 390 will definitely be my next bike. I originally wanted a small Duke but obviously couldn't get one. I'll likely keep at least one Ninja 250 in my stable, it's too fun to get rid of!

Given that british low grade fuel is of a higher octane than american premium fuel I can imagine they will need to mod timing or whatever to make it suitable, most KTMs require high oftane fuels, part of their "ready to race" nonsense, i almost brought the 200 duke as it's a lot cheaper than the ninja 250 here, but it felt smaller and cheap.

Visor Down says that the UK price for the 390 will be 4,495 pounds. (roughly $7,100 US). What does the Ninja 300 sell for in the UK? I think if it were offered in the US at $5K, it would take a huge chunk of the market. At $10K, enthusiasts would still rave about it, but nobody would actually buy it. In the $7k to $8k range, it gets a little dicey for me. Soon enough, people are going to be able to get Ninja 300's for $5.5k OTD almost everywhere, and closer to $5K OTD in some places. Would that same buyer be willing to pay $2k - $3k more?

From the UK reviews I've seen, the Ninja 300 sells in the UK for £4,799 (£5,199 with ABS). Pricing the 390 Duke at £4,495 makes it a very competitive proposition. If KTM brings it to North America with a similar pricing strategy, I think it can be serious player here.

I don't live in the UK, the island I live on is technically British but not part of the UK, same as the Falkland islands or Gibraltar, our prices tend to be about 10%-20% higher than the UK due to import associated costs, but we don't pay the 20% VAT "sales tax" the UK does, so more expensive items like cars and bikes tend to be cheaper than the UK as import won't cost nearly 20% of the value of a new vehicle.

The Duke 200 was £3500 that's $5546 usd "listed as £3995 on their site now"
My ninja 250 was £3995 that's $6330 usd

The Ninja 300 isn't sold here yet, the price is TBC at my dealers.

I just googled Kawasaki Ninja 300 UK price and found this site

Says 4,799 pounds so about $7,600. If that's accurate then maybe there is hope that the KTM 390 price in the USA will be close to the 300.

That price will include 20% VAT sales tax also, so it's more like $6083 plus whatever the sales tax is in your state, if it's the same price, and since american Kawasaki bikes tend to be cheaper, I would hazard a guess it will come down even more.

Hmm so if the KTM 390 price that Alex posted is sans VAT tax than it'll be about $1000 more than the Ninja 300. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I don't think KTM would bothering bringing the bike over if they sell it for 2 or 3 grand more than the ninja. Nobody in their right mind would buy it. For that kinda money you are getting close to the 650cc bikes and left over 600 SS. Just wouldn't make sense.

I bet it will be priced between the Ninja 300 and Honda 500 bikes if it makes it's way to the US.

I'm sure it'll be cheaper than the ninja 300 in india, as it's going to be manufactured here. The duke 200 is already less than half he price of the ninja 250 here...

KTM 390 Duke in the U.S?

http://www.asphaltandrubber.com/bike...ke/#more-37398

Do you guys think this might come to the U.S.? I've been wishing for a bike near the 400 cc displacement range and this is the closest I can find besides the CB400 which I haven't been able to find for sale. I'm hoping to find one in the next few years after I'm out of college so I can move up but if the duke comes to the US it too would be a viable option. What do you guys think about it?

I'm excited!

NO!!! You take that back right now. It's not a sportbike. Keep those stock bars and rearsets. The upright seating position would but fun on that bike. Similar to my little SM.
