The Guts of the Ninja 250 gas cap lock

I'll do a write up eventually. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves for now.

Those float screws almost screwed me over while I was doing the vinegar rust treatment.

Didn't realize they don't actually screw into the tank but on the elevated square platform.

Yep he made one:

I went as far as removing the whole key tumbler which needed a whole lot of cleaning due to someone drilling it out. Lubing up the tumbler helps a lot too.

I only had a gallon of vinegar to use and my petcock is still leaking which I need to trace down as to why.

How do you have it capped off?

I used a rubber sheet with two screw holes then screwed it down with the petcock (w/ filter removed of coursed) to distribute pressure against the middle hole. Works like a charm. Tank still leaks but from the overflow hole, I have a rag soaked in vinegar at the top so I guess at nights, condensation collects and runs down the overflow hole.

EDIT: Does saying your petcock's leaking imply that you have vinegar in there while the actual petcock assembly is still attached? Isn't that an aluminum composed device? That's not exactly a good thing to have bathed in an acid albeit minor one.

Petcock still attached. I didn't have anything available to seal it and think anything of it. I guess that's not a good idea now lol. I'm thinking the gasket or rubber seals are bad. It was leaking before the vinegar treatment.

Looks like the vinegar cleared out the blockage or gummed parts in the petcock. The diaphragm seems to be operating as it should visually. Only one way to find out for sure.

Thanks for the pics but how in the world do you get to the check valves? I have all the screws out and it seems like the lock is holding it together. Any help would be great!

You should be able to pull it off. It may be just stuck together. You could push the key cylinder out but be super super careful because the brass tumblers can come out flying g with the springs.

Ah... you might need a to get a pick or a thin flat head to depress a tumbler from the bottom to get it to come out towards the gas cap opening.

here's something similar:
