Spools That Actually Fit? Lets End The Confusion.
Ok, first off I did a search for spools and read almost all of the threads that I found so please dont flame me. I need to get a set of spools for my 08. I know that Kawasaki spools are 10mm but some of the spools that fit other Kawis wont fit on the 250. This is because the spool mounts on the swingarm are not flush and have a small gap. I got a set of STM Italy spools for a good deal. As usual, because of my never ending luck....they didnt fit properly. I thought they came with a spacer so they could fit snug against the swing arm mount but they didnt. So here is what I would like you guys to do. Please reply with which spools will fit on 08 and up 250s. Now when I say fit I dont mean that there is a small gap because the spools are not tapered. Post up the ones that sit FLUSH into the mount and fit PROPERLY. Pics would be great. I thinks this would clear up alot of confusion on which 10MM spools fit. I will edit as we go, maybe this can be a sticky? Thanks!
10MM STM Italy Spools DO NOT FIT. T-REX 10MM Spools FIT.(Might need to file them down to get them snug) Pit Bull Spools FIT with included spacer. Shogun Spools FIT. Vortex Spools FIT. OESaccessories.com 250R Spools FIT. Last futzed with by Brad Turner; June 11th, 2009 at 08:27 PM. |

T-Rex 10mm spools fit fine. I just had to file a flat spot on the spacer so it would be snug against the swingarm.

Pitbull spools work fine with their included spacer.

The 10mm refers to the size of the bolt and has nothing to do with the spool’s diameter or length.

I use vortex too but they wouldnt fit cuz of all the paint on the inside so I had to get a tap and clean the paint out.

I'm going to take some pictures now to show you guys what I mean when I said I filed them.
Pics aren't that good, just found out the main camera's LCD screen is broke. Yay! - Hopefully you can see what I actually filed here. If I hadn't filed this it wouldn't have been flush against the area for spools, it was hitting the swingarm. |

I already said that my T-rex 10mm spools fit without any problems or modifications, so did a few others. Therefore, they fit, lol.

No idea. It goes over my head.
The only thing I can think of is the aforementioned problem with the paint being laid on too thick in the threads. Some people have had to tap those threads, maybe he had the same problem? I had to give mine a little extra nudge on one side, but no issues.

Could be that I was sent the wrong size because there was no way they would fit. It was not an issue of paint in the threads;they were just too big. If it was due to the paint, the Vortex spools wouldn't have fit, but since the 10mm Vortex spools fit perfectly, the only thing that makes sense is that the T-Rex's were the wrong size.

Does anyone know if any of the other Kawasaki bikes use the same spools, including the spacer? I want to pick up some spools and a stand in the next day or two, and all of the shops near me don't stock spools specifically for the 250. Looks like I can get any of these brands: Shogun, Vortex, STM, Woodcraft or Sato

Steel Horse (cycle gear carries 'em) spools wouldn't fit without some filing, similar to what k-os did. The picture at the cycle gear site doesn't show them, but these come with two conical aluminum spacers and these are what need filed in order to clear the swing arm. http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1...em=STE_SP6MM_G

Need to Tap mine so they fit
I bought some rear spools so I can put my bike up on the rear stand and they are 10mm and don't fit. Where can I take my bike to get the paint cleaned out so they do fit?

anyone know if these will fit? they are 10mm, but don't come with spacers...i suppose i could use some washers, but nobody seems to have the pit bull spools in blue, in canada.
http://www.eurocorsa.com/cgi-bin/com...ey=50AFF10-BLU EDIT: Bought the PBR spools, fit with a couple M10 washers per side. I had to file the washers down a bit to keep them from hitting swing arm as well. Last futzed with by kamikaze; August 22nd, 2010 at 04:37 PM. |
