Sharing my exciting experience on installing my new steering damper

Remove the tank from the bike

After removing the tank

Ready to install my new bling bling part!

Set aside my tank

Installing steering damper primary bace mount pt.1

Installing steering damper primary bace mount pt.2

Installing secondary bace mount.

Bace mount.

Putting on the steering damper itself.

Shot from another angle.

Job Completed!!!

P.S. remember to use glue tight for all screws for extra security!!!

Just a question like that , is a steering damper is realy necessary on this bike ? But the final result looks like so impressive

the color of your Ninja will be mine next fall , l hope .

Nice damper. I have been looking at those recently.
I found them available for purchase from the UK I think but not positive.
I need to do more research on Dampers.

Regardless of what most think I still think a damper can come in handy on this bike.

P.S..
you may want to use blue loctite next time so you can remove the screws without heat. Still holds screws in just as good as red but not as hard to remove.

Hi Méké,

Yes, steering damper is important!! It can save you from pot holes and bumps.
I have many experiences that I was saved by my steering damper.

Hi KC~

The Steering damper that I am using is half of the price that you r looking at (from your link). I think it is also an OEM brand. Thanks for your tip on the blue loctite, but I was afraid that they would get stollen, that's why I used red.

OP..
I see now why you used red loctite.
I don't have that problem here because I park in a garage and nowhere else with my bike. I did not think of security reasons. Thanks for the enlightenment.

i wonder if those WRRP bolt-on mounts would play nicely with a SCOTTS or other similar mechanical dampers... looks like it would need a shorter rod

sorry for the late reply. These two dampers both works great, the only differences would be the RPM brands has 23 clicks to adjust the stiffness, and the WRRP has 16 clicks. If you are still interested, please feel free to message me, I can give you more information!

I noticed the bracket on the handle bar mounts up on top of the handle bar riser. Will this work for those who have clip-ons? I noticed the one that John has would work with Clip-ons, but do you need to weld that one? Like the option of no-welding required.

I sell RPM's shocks. Sounds like KAO is going to handle their dampers which is fine. He beat me to it so he can have it. I will stick to Kitaco. WRRP's damper kit sells for $153 but they are prone to leaking which is not a good thing. No idea on the RPM's price but the quality is much better than WRRP's.

I like the look, and I like the clean install, but I have some concerns over the design. All of the force of the bars moving back and forth is transmitted to that single long bolt that then is attached below with no additional support, right? Seems like it would work fine for moderate impacts, but if the front wheel hit a hard enough jolt while leaned over, is that one bolt enough to take all of that force?

@Alex: the force the bolt can take obviously depends on the strength/grade of the bolt. no way to know for sure without a link or website for the RPM product. It's hard to tell about the design from just the pictures but depending on how it goes together some of the force may be translated along the gold tube as well and then on to the bottom mount, but we have to wait and see.

Where did you get this price and parts from??? We are the only sells in the U.S.A. that carrys WRRP parts!! We have very good bond and relationship with the "big boss" from RPM, and all of our race bikes are sponcered by RPM. RPM steering dampers's set up is based on WRRP's racing experiences. If there is any "leaking problems" why was I never heard of??? If any buyers has any problems with the items they purchased, whould they keep "quiet???" and not asking for other resources or ways to resolve any issues???

I'm about to instal a steering damper in my 250R and this topic's gonna help me a lot!
I have an used Ohlins from an ZX-10R that is cheap and should help me. The streets here in Brazil are a shame and anything that can provide me a safer ride is worth trying.

There is a tank slapper test that consist of bumping the bar in some sort of way or another..
so it's possible to find out.

Had a read through this and its still not clear to me what a steering damper actually does? does it minimize the force of impact when going over a pot hole or something? i had a quick look in the search but couldn't find anything really. sorry for the noob question

Hmm. Old thread got bumped. But to answer the first few replies, yes, a damper can help on any bike. Here's video I got of my friend hitting an odd section of the highway and experiencing a tank-slapper, first-hand.
