DIY/Review of the Bikelitez Integrated Tail light

I have loved my Ninja 250 but ever since I first saw it I've always wanted to clean up the rear end of the bike. Frustrated with many of the fender eliminator kits and flush mount blinkers etc... I went in search of a clean affordable option to clean up the back end. My search led me to the idea of integrated tail lights. I love them! At the time there were only one or two offerings and I wasn't really satisfied with them for one reason or another.

After corresponding with several companies I stumbled upon an offering from Bikelitez. It definitely fit the bill so I gave it a shot. I haven't seen any mention of this integrated tail light on any of the Ninja forums so I thought I'd do a quick DIY/Review for those that are interested.

The light can be found here in either smoked or clear variants:
http://www.bikelitez.com/product_p/k0809250itl.htm

A before shot (At the same time I am also giving the rear fender a chop)

The light as it arrived:

Remove the black side panels, seat, rear fenders, and disconnect the rear blinkers

Remove the old tail light (also a pic of the old sitting with the new)

At this point you have several options. You can remove the wires from the original rear blinkers and use those in conjunction with the provided connectors to make a close to "no cut" install. Or you can do what I did and leave the blinkers alone just in case I want to install them later on down the road (no pun intended). I ran some wire from the rear of the bike to just under the seat (the same position the stock turn signal wire was at). And instead of using the provided connecters I opted to solder all of the wires together to provide more of a water-proof/clean connection.

Zip-tie the resistors to the horizontal frame cross-member located just under the seat.

Here is a wiring diagram of how to connect the resistors and also some pics of them all soldered up.

And the finished product! (ignore the dirty bike, I had to ride in the snow today)

And the post wouldn't be complete w/o a video

Link to original page on YouTube.

All in all this is a fantastic product and I would highly recommend it to anyone. The total install should take less than an hour. Not knowing that the light came with resistors I went to Autozone a few days earlier and picked up a heavy duty relay but I don't even need it. (another $10 saved!) I will admit that the blink rate is a bit high for my liking but I'm sure I will get use to it. If not I could just throw that relay in and that would slow it down. I was real concerned that the LED's wouldn't be bright enough, especially with the smoked lens, but after installing them they are as bright if not brighter than the stock tail light.

Way to go Bikelitez!

Let me know if you have any questions,
Brian

I looked into that but by the time you're done paying for shipping it comes out to the same price. Plus you have to wait 2 weeks or more

Edit: I also asked if it was the same light as it looks very similar and Paul (I think) told me that he didn't know.

Do you prefer this one over the other model of integrated taillight?

I'm debating on whether or not I would order a new batch of "bikemonkey" taillights, so far its the best deal in the house and best quality!

Thanks! I would say that the tail light is just as bright as the OEM until you apply the brakes or use the blinkers. They are actually much brighter at that point!

I'd be willing to debate that. I'm in no way affiliated with bikelitez but it would be hard to beat the fit and finish of this product. And the price is great.

Integrated Light Problem

I just installed one of these but the turn signals stay on solid. Any idea why?

That is exactly what happens when you haven't installed the included resistors correctly or upgraded the relay.

Double check that your resistors are hooked up as per my wiring diagram and everything should work great.

Integrated tail light

Unfortunately the guy I bought the light from did not include any resistors so I tried a couple on my own. I tried a 1k and a 10k but they were not the large power resistors that you have shown. Do you know what value they are so I can purchase a couple? By the way, your post is excellent. Extremely helpful. I just don't have the resistors that come with the kit.

You say this may be a Shinto light, um i kinda think it is..well maybe

i made a HUGE load with wifey's uncles factory (1000pcs), and even before listing here i was selling these to resellers. (USA, Canda, UK, Australia, India, Hong Kong, Malay)

2 people in states baught Bulk, did not know business name, could of been these guys who know's..

but good for them, they are providing a good service!

i do recomend eveyone to use my Adjustable LED Flasher relay so you can play with the flash rate....

Anyway...stay safe & keep on moddin!

You can get these Resisters from me, or just get an Adjustable Flasher Relay, also from me (Shinto Racing)

A bit of a late reply, just seen it.. the reason i said i dont know is cos the link you sent me in the email (at BL webpage) was terible, i did actually say, without a better look i could not say if it was

You also have shipping options, if your in a rush, its more, if you can wait its cheaper.

2 weeks or more shipping, is the cheapest shipping. most people have opted for 3-7day shipping.

I believe that the resistors are 20ohm 5w but I don't know for sure until I pull off the seat.

ThaiNinjaRR,
I do not want this to turn into a vs. thread. I'm simply doing a review of the bikelitez integrated tail light. If it did originate from your factory, its a great product.

I'm a little late to this thread. The integrated light looks great, but it may be illegal to use that without the stock turn signals in some areas, so it may be a good idea to check your particular area first. Specifically, I think here in Florida there's a law that you have to have at least 9 inches separating your left and right turn signals. YMMV!

You are right. Some states are more sticklers about it than others. Here in Utah I don't think it's that big of a deal.

Looks great!!

this looks amazing, the only thing I am wondering is how the fender chop was done and what is used to mount the license plate?

The only thing I purchased for the fender chop was the licence plate lights off of ebay for like $10.

Other than that I just used a dremel tool to cut the fender off and used some of the existing bracketing to construct the licence plate holder.

I actually purchased this tail light impart because of this thread and I can attest to its quality ease of installation. I had no problems putting the light in. It fit perfectly and the wiring wasn't too bad. The end result looks amazing and it completely cleans up the back of the bike (with a fender chop obviously). This ended up ebing on of my favorite mods and I highly recommend it.

I'm definitely getting the integrated light, I'm just worried about doing the fender chop myself because a lot of the ones I've seen you can tell that someone chopped it off because there is rough cut plastic all over the place. Yours looks absolutely amazing and I apologize for asking so many questions about it, but did you sand it down after you cut it? How did you make it look so clean?
