GPS + Ipod audio solution DIY
I recently got a GPS for my bike and wanted to hear the GPS and my ipod at the same time (through the in-ear headphones I use). I came across this diagram for a simple stereo mixer. Currently I am using a ram mount for my garmin nuvi 855. The connections and resistors that I used are from radio shack (in the drawers with small electronic components). I used a piece of sheet metal to mount the connections to (it measures 1" where the velcro is and 3" at its widest point). Here are some pictures of my setup.
I ran a male - male 1/8" audio cable to the gps from under the rear seat (being sure the steering had enough slack to turn fully). I mounted the 2 input - 1 output mixer under the passenger seat with velcrow as seen below: The grey male - female cable is the output that my headphones plug into. The black male cable I plug into my ipod, and the green cable is what comes from the GPS. Here is a view of what it looks like underneath: Any questions let me know... |

Nice, but it would have been a lot simpler to just use something like the Belkin Rockstar.
Cool to see some creative work though. |

Ohh cool, yea i have never seen that, i searched for simple mixers but only found expensive ones. Still, doing it yourself is cheaper if you have the time, tools, and a local radioshack...

It looks just like a diagram for a Y-splitter used in reverse.

I use this and i just jack my scala rider into it. I keep this in my jacket pocket and run a wire down the inside of it to a female connector that comes out of the bottom of the seat. I set it up in the parking lot of frys yesterday lol so i have to redo it to hide the wires under the gas tank and stuff but works good.
