Gel seat insert?

Did a search and found nothing on making the stock 08+ seats a little more comfortable. I like to take 3hr+ group rides and after awhile my butt tends to hurt a little at times. I heard one guy I ride with say he has gel inserts in his seat. So if any1 can point me in the comfort section to buy and maybe if any1 has them how hard was the install and hardware quality. O and if the seat is actualy more comfortable. Thx.

I was wondering th same thing after a long ride the other day. I know Corbin makes a seat. I was thinking of modifying my own with some nice(r) foam, like memory foam maybe. Gel would be an interesting idea. Didn't think of it.

The 'Pro Pad' in medium size about $80, you can use it on any other bike w similar sized seat which is something you can not do w/ a corbin and it's waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy cheaper!!!

It made an entire universe of difference over the stock seat, which hurt my boney ass after 10mins, I can now ride hours w/o feeling an ounce of discomfort

It is easy to install/remove for washing and all straps tuck under seat.

roho airhawk I've heard good things about. Some people get car seat beads from walmart and put on (ive done this before on my bigger bikes). I've heard about a guy that took the upholstery off his seat, went and bought a bicycle gel seat and molded it into his foam on his bike and put the seat back together.

That'll be awesome if you guys can find a cheap corbin alternative, I also want a comfortable seat, but just can't get the corbins, I would rather get protective stuff (back protector/chest/high end gloves/boots)first before it.

Why would it not last? As long as it is recovered it wouldnt hurt the seat or the padding I wouldnt think. If they can sit on a bicycle for years outside I'd think it could stay under leather seat cover on a bike. Plus it'd be worth a try before dropping $400 on a seat.

**Although It might be a little harder on the newgens to dish out the seat, than the pregens would be. Didnt think about that until now.........sorry**

Although I like the idea of adding a gel pad into the current seat... something to think on

The gels do heat up... way more than I thought it would and you can feel it.
With it under the seat closer to engine I imagine it getting even hotter than mine.
With it on the outside you can 'cool' it off by either scooting back some and use your fingers to let air in under the front of it or lift off the seat for a few seconds while moving and it cools it right down every time.

I also seem to recall someone explaining to me once that soft gel seats can be more painful, since you sink into them, causing your tail bone to bottom out. I think there is a reason most motorcycle and bicycle seats are not super squishy. Memory foam or some other type of foam might be worth pursuing over the gel stuff.

There are also a few threads where it's all about the shape of the seat not the softness. The shape of the stock seat is bowed at the center which makes it easier to bump your tailbone into it. There was a member I forget who, that shaved the seat flat and has said it made a world of a difference.

The Saddlemen company supposedly offers Ninja 250R gel seats, but I've never been able to find a picture of one on an actual 250, and it doesn't seem to be on their site anymore.

Gel seat pad has done nothing but help my skinny arse. I don't even lift my butt over big bumps now, cause it won't hurt at all. and trust me I have no padding on my arse, which is why it hurt so bad on the stock seat.

Seen 2 ppl w corbin seats on the 250, neither where very happy w them (1 in fact hated it worse than stock seat)....I can not justify the price. I looked into taking my seat to a local upholstery shop, and for under $100 they will add new padding (shaped to me) and dual color matching of bike on seat colors. I think DaBlue also had his custom done at a local shop for >$100 and his looks great. (I would got mine done too, but I never planned on keeping bike for long, so I'm not investing into tons of mods for it).

Not as professional but you can technically reshape it yourself. Takes some effort but it's been done before. If all you want is a reshape, not really add alot of foam, it probably wont cost more than $50 for foam and a yard of marine vinyl. Although, <$100 is a pretty damn good deal for a custom seat. Either way, post some photos if you can after it get's done. I've been looking into doing this as well and it would help me alot.

Oh nice. Thanks for the reference. That does look good. It's kinda what I had in mind. I wanted the shape to be more flat than bowed out in the center and like his, more level.

Here it is guys.
For 20 bucks I'm very happy.

Note: It also adds like an inch or two on the seat height which is a + for me cause I'm a taller rider, makes my bike more comfortable cause it affects my riding position + it also utilizes my clip-ons for a much comfortable aggressive riding position.

Ninjas only problems is they dont really have seats =/

its either you sit up against the tank and squish your balls or sit back, slide forward and then squish them harder

kaiserz-Did you buy that in the motorcycle stuff section of Walmart? If so do you know what brand it is? I might try to see if I can find one even though I don't recall seeing one in the motorcycle section of the Walmarts here.

Also what kind of tail bag is that on your bike? Looks nice!

+1!!! $20 for that sounds great! I've never seen one at Walmart and I'd definitely try it out!

Update: can't seem to find one on Walmart.com unless u just used the bottom of a car seat cover. If so, maybe u can give us a link or the serial number?

I rolled into walmart today after work and bought one; I stuck it under my butt omw home and I could definitely tell it was there. The small increase in height was nice on my knee's and my bum seemed to enjoy it a lot more than the stock seat. Another great feature is how it allows you to choose where to sit on the seat instead of being shoved against the tank constantly.

Kaiserz; did you shove the sides of the gel pad up under the seat? Or did you tie the sides under some how?

pilotgeorge747 I got at at the car section, it's meant to be a car seat thing. I'm sorry I don't remember the brand but I'm gonna try to drop-by at wallymart to check it out if i have time,

The tank bag is an axio tail bag http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-A...item3cbac76ee6 The color doesn't match my bike, but I'm pretty sure It'll match the older blue ninja's. But I painted it black and I really like how slick it looks.

Very true Live2ride, I love this thing, made my bike more comfortable.

This Is what I did. I didn't use any special tools or rope/ties etc.

I have gel in the seat on my Moto Guzzi, it was modified before I got it and I am NOT a fan. It holds heat, and transfers pressure to the more 'sensitive' areas instead of just supporting your backside evenly. I have had Corbin's and don't mind Mike's approach (I like the firm foam, but not the way he changes the riding position and pulls the rider back from the bars). I won't name the guy that did the work on my Guzzi seat, as it was done for a previous owner of the bike and while I don't like it I didn't order it either.

I have heard a lot of good about Spencer's mods and he does not use gel, he has a far better solution called Supracor. Pricing is very reasonable!

Did you get a whole seat and take that apart? Or is just a piece of a seat?

Sorry, This looks quite interesting

Hmmm how do I explain this. I didn't do anything special, no special ropes, thingiemagigs to put em to my ninja, I didn't disassemble them or anything. It took me 5 mins to install (and figure everything out) they're just the supplementary cushion for your "bottoms" that you put (on top) of your seat. at $20 you'll have a very happy "butt".
