first gen exhaust on a new ninja
The first gen engine has bigger valves than the new ninja. That is the reason the first gen bikes have better top end. The just plain flow more air at to RPM.
If you look at a new ninja header there is a little bit of pipe going into the head and the flange is a floating ring or a welded flange. The first gen exhaust is a big flared tube with a collar arrangement to hold it in place. I have ported my head extensively.I am only looking for top end power so I want it wide open. The stock exhaust is now a restriction at the outlet of the head, So I decided to use a first gen header and make a dual exhaust. What I did was simply weld two nuts to the sides of the pipe. Then fill in the sides and around the pipe with weld until I had enough to grind the sides down. I made some gaskets from aluminum paint 001.jpg paint 002.jpg exhaust finished 010.JPG exhaust finished 020.JPG |

That's a very creative way to get an inexpensive larger diameter header to compliment the valve work you've done.
How does the diameter of the pre-gen headers compare to the diameter of a full aftermarket exhaust system for the new-gen bikes, like the Area P race system, or the Tyga full system? Also, how would the flow of your home-made system compare to the flow of a full aftermarket system for the new-gen? Dyno results yet? |

The head flange holes are all the same. The after market pipes come out of the head like a cone from 25mm to like 30mm. Then begin the larger diameter pipes. But they are 2 into one,I have two large pipes that go into LONG megaphone pipes. 57 inches that will help draw out the exhaust gases.and pull in the next intake charge. I hope. I will be testing this on the dyno in a couple weeks.

Since the crossover pipe supposedly is only there to improve midrange, have you considered removing it? I doubt the top end gained from removing it is anywhere near the midrange gained from having it, but it would be interesting to see the results on a dyno.

header pipe
Anyone know where I can get an aftermarket header pipe for 2012 ninja 250? I have a Leo Vince slip-on, but now I want the larger dia header pipe, but dont want to have to buy and entire new exhaust system. just want the header pipe.

Look into Tyga Performance.
Only place I have come across where you can purchase the header assembly. |

That is nice.
I am going on the dyno tomorrow. I am going to do a side by side test. My home made junk vs area p front section ad a Nojima rear muffler. Since I started using this first gen system I have lost some power. I need to see if it is the exhaust.

Side by side my junk made batter power all motor and much better power with nitrous. A little loud but pleasant. Compared to a top fuel dragster.
