Monster Energy Graves Yamaha rider runs away with race and retakes points lead; teammate Josh Herrin beats Yoshimura’s Blake Young for second (http://www.sportrider.com/news/146_12050_ama_pro_superbike_miller_motorsports_park_race/index.html)TOOELE, UTAH, MAY 28 – Monster Energy Graves Yamaha’s Josh Hayes took advantage of a weakened Blake Young (Yoshimura Suzuki) and his own strengthening teammate, Josh Herrin, to blast to victory in the AMA Superbike race on a glorious sunlit Memorial Day at Miller Motorsports Park.

Hayes put the race out of reach within a few laps, racing to his own rhythm and pulling away with so much pace that the others knew early on it was futile to give chase.

The lead grew and grew and went over eight seconds—he was gapping the others at more than half a second a lap—before he slowed to win by 7.774 seconds.

The Miller superbike win was his fourth of the AMA season and put him back in the championship points lead. After seven of 20 races he leads Young 194 to 187. National Guard Jordan Suzuki’s Roger Lee Hayden is stuck at third with 114 points after crashing three times this weekend, including in morning warm-up and the race.

“Yeah, what an awesome day,” Hayes said. “The bike was good, things have been pretty smooth for me for the weekend. We really didn’t make too many changes. Weather was changing enough. We figured we better stick with kinda what we know and just try to work on getting good clean laps and all in all it was a pretty smooth run.

“We’ve had a little bit of tire issues when it was cold. But we were kinda watching the weather and counting on and knowing that today is going to be much better.

“We couldn’t ask for much more today. It was a beautiful day for racing. The temperatures were great. A perfect Memorial Day having National Guard as the primary sponsor of our Superbike series. Fantastic that on Memorial Day we would be able to put on a good show for National Guard and what an awesome day and thanks to all the servicemen and women out there who support us and hopefully they’re entertained by the show that under the umbrella they provide for us.”
