Pyramid Highway is definitely fun. Got to go with the Off-Road Experience folks awhile back exploring some of the wicked back country out there.

This weekends adventure is in the Jeep so no bike pics this time. But will go playing over next week.

Since it's the longest day, decided to go for a ride. Sand Mountain ended up being my destination before my fuel gauge reminded me I had to go home.

I hate the Kawi lime green and was seriously considering not buying mine until the owner rolled her out into the sun. 2012 got a Candy Lime Green coat and OMG she is sooo pretty!!

it was a sudden decision on Tuesday when I realized today is a holiday. Totally worth it road though not as technical as I was expecting. One whole segment was nothing but medium lefts and rights that you just keep rocking the bike back and forth too. It was GREAT! :thumbup:

I've got pictures in front of that sign with many of my bikes. It's what you do whenever you get near that area. There's that one, and then there's the 74 mile one near Carmel on Highway 1...

That was a lot of fun and I think I timed it right so the was very little traffic. All but one was kind enough to either pull over or motion me around them when I caught up.

Went out to the old settlement of Dixie Valley where the Navy has bought up all the land and installed an Electronic Warfare training simulator thingamajig. Scattered around the valley are visual cueing targets, and I know where two tanks happen to be. Nice having a Picture Game challenge I can do.

Nice thing about this pic is I caught the rising full moon just over the mountains and the camera actually captured it.

If you've ever seen Into The Wild, a bus similar to the one Alexander Supertramp found is also in this clearing. Once I came out with a few friends who took turns posing along side the bus. :)

I'm a bit confused. Are you going on one big tour around the states or are these photos from all different excursions you've been on. Do you travel/adventure quite a bit on your ninjette?

I find it hard to be comfortable on big rides. I can only ride for up to an hour at a time or I get achy! I think the most I could do comfortably would be about 3 hours total riding a day.

Oh, I am sorry! I did not mean to confuse. Each of these are separate trips, usually posted the day of or the next day (depending on when I get home). I travel a LOT on my ninja! I was looking at the 2013 mileage contest to see where I started and so far this year I have put on over 20,000 miles. I took a big trip with my mom, stepdad, and their coworkers back in July that had three legs, 300 miles, 500 miles, then 700 miles. After that, I found myself hooked on long distance traveling. If you pop over to the ride reports, I usually write something up after the main trips (http://www.ninjette.org/forums/search.php?searchid=1553931) (but not all the little ones I do).

I would LOVE a month or twelve to just travel around the continent before shipping my bike to Europe and continuing to explore.

I still can't believe it took me this long to get down there! It's only a few hours south of here.It's pretty amazing how many people have Yosemite in their backyard and have never been. I mean, people literally come from all over the world to see Yosemite. I love Yosemite and have hiked there (may actually do Half Dome next year, hiking wise). I have not been across Tioga Pass yet, although I would love to see the other side, as it is vastly different than the valley. Usually, I buy a pass because it's so close from where I live and easily accessible. I have tons of Yosemite pics, just not on the bike yet... someday!

Yet again tried the BunBurnerGold and yet again failed due to exhaustion. At least these are giving me a second day to go places I haven't been before!

I'd never even let my bike touch the salt flats. I hope you hosed the **** out of that bike before long??? I hate what a little road salt does to our cars, I can only imagine what that much salt does to your entire bike. :eek:

She's getting a complete scrub down tomorrow. Had to get home today so the dry salt got a ride home with me. Been sporting too much road grime for too long so the salt is just the final straw to a thorough detailing.

So, my bike was in the shop for a week and obviously unable to ride it. But got it back and heard that the roads below 5k were clean and dry so went riding. Since I had emptied the bike of all my electronics, I didn't get a log for this route.

My first stop was to check out an old historic "billboard" showing a local business' support for a Presidential candidate. In one of the most clever ads I have seen, the owner supported both men! Unfortunately, the sign is now behind private property but I had an old pic I took awhile ago.

And yesterday, being December 1st, I had to go riding to be able to claim I have ridden every month this year. A few Twitter followers were saying they were under grey sky and snow or rain, so thought I would share the sunshine with them.

The historic Lincoln Highway runs parallel to the modern Highway 50. You can drive it, but high clearance is recommended as NDOT pulled out the culverts so there are periodic gaps in the road.

So today was the first day of vacation and i couldn't have asked for better weather. Decided to do a shake down since my girl was trapped in the garage for the last three weeks.

Rode to Reno to grab In & Out since that was the Picture challenge. Then headed south to Washoe Valley where I stopped by a small cemetery right along side of the road that almost seems forgotten, but someone is watching over these graves.

Further south, in Carson, I decided to figure out how to get around the construction for the new I-580 freeway to get to the old Stewart Indian School. One of the places Native children were taught European ways. This is one of the buildings in the complex.

Inyo County in California is a land of extremes, from Badwater (the lowest point in North America) one only has to look 85 miles away to find the highest point in the lower 48, Mt. Whitney at 14,505 ft.

North Carolina and Mississippi are the farthest from Florida that I have been in USA, so pics of any place are honey to my eyes.

I travelled to Destin a few times and once got bored after the conference so went on a road trip to Louisiana. Had fun the next day as everyone was talking about the game, or dinner, or a bar, and I'm like "I went to three states!" LOL

Another beautiful day, another ride.

This is a view from Virginia City. The lumpy little mountain in the middle is Sugarloaf. The camera didn't pick it up, but behind the next range with the two dark peaks I could see a few of the higher points covered in snow, the furthest being Desatoya Peak, highpoint of Churchill County and 100 miles away from where I took this shot!

Virginia City is fun! Great roads getting out there, especially from the west side, if I remember correctly. One bonus on a Cal24 a few years back was in the old cemetery in that town.

Paved road wise there is Geiger Grade from Reno, Six Mile Canyon from Stagecoach, the Truck Route and Hwy 342 from Moundhouse. Dirt road wise there are even more squirrelly roads that follow old Comstock era routes.

I love heading up into the Virginia Highlands since it is lower than the Sierras so tends to be less snow (though this year is a joke). Tons of bikes out today going both ways.

The main cemetary is huge and shows a lot of what life was like back then. There are also a few others scattered around the mountain from other communities or "undesirables" from VC. Reportedly one of the tombstones glows on certain nights.

I wasn't able to find the grave marker that was part of the bonus, so it turned out to be a wasted trip. The roads were great, nevertheless. The cemetery was huge...

That's a bummer! Hope it wasn't too high of a point value.

Hurm, you may have given me an idea for a photo next time I am up there. Old cemetaries are special places, I have fun imaging what each life was like during their time on earth.

State Route 361. Not quite middle of the state but may as well be. These north south roads between the highways are why I carry so much stuff.

Yes! Looks gorgeous, and those last few shots have me really wanting to explore.

Oh exploring is fine, just don't go popping off road and then gassing it thinking there's nothing out there in the open desert. There are A LOT of unmarked mine shafts just left open that can swallow up people or vehicles. The ones we found yesterday were deep and sheer enough it'd take help from the surface to get out again.

Now all that said, I am strongly against exploring into any old mines. Unlike caves, miners didn't care and blasted through the hard supporting rock, leaving timbers to support the shafts. Those timbers have rotted or dried out in the century since so not only are you dealing with bad air or potential open pits inside the shaft, but cave ins happen quite frequently.

I'd rather poke around the site of the town that went with the mining district than the mines themselves. :)

It's fantastic out here. Come on out, not that far really. Though I'd recommend late summer or early autumn for the perfect riding weather.

Funny story happened in Downieville today. As I walked to the store, I heard a friendly "Hi!" Looking around, no one was on the street. I kept walking and heard "Hello!" Still no one out. I looked up to the second floor balconies on the buildings, and spotted the bird cage. Large green parrot whistled at me. "Hi, birdy!" "Hello!" Friendly bird was greeting everyone that walked by her cage.

As I was sitting there eating my lunch, watching my experience happen a few times to other tourists. The bird also had "Good bye!", her owner's name "Will!", and a few different whistles.

Not sure what type they are. I had pulled over to check on the chain and saw this little white flower and a little yellow flower in bloom. Both are wild so were scattered all over the desert floor. This one just happened to be clumped in a small circle.

Looking down into New Melones Lake, at the recently revealed Old Parrots Ferry Road bridge that was submerged in the early 80's with the construction of the new dam. There is also the old dam, the old Hwy 49 bridge, and the old town of Melones that are starting to show as the water level drops.

Bought the Ninja as a temporary bike to get around while my DRZ E/SM is being fixed. Got a little impatient and decided to hit some trails with a mate.
Went fine offroad through mud over rocks and grass etc. Wasn't until just after this photo I thought id try to do some donuts on the grass that I stacked it :( Bike had been crashed by previous owner but I did make it a little worse haha

I did stop for lunch at Bruno's and had a big heaping plate of spaghetti. Watching the snow roll in from across the valley really made me want to stay up there for the night, but (correctly) guessed that the mountains between Pyramid Lake and WinnemuccaLake would block the system engh for me to sneak through.

Didn't take many still pictures from my Winter Solstice ride, but did get this one of just how silly it was.

Took a short 100 mile ride yesterday since I won't be riding for a few months. Weather was calm though cold, but thanks to all my heated gear it was pleasant. Mostly just wanted to round off the odometer before dumping Sta-bil into my tank for the first time.

You don't have much of a location in your profile, so it's hard to recommend places to travel to. We have some great motorcycling destinations in NC, particularly in the western part.

The Alps- that sounds exciting!
