About a week ago I went for a ride and to started raining midway, causing my leather gloves to get completely drenched. A week on and now they are completely covered with mould. How can I prevent this from happening in the future? Thanks in advance :thumbup:

Dry them out after they get wet?

When I get home from a wet ride I hang my gloves on the ends of my bars (Looks like my bikes is holding out hands saying "hey", hah). Of course, i keep my bike garaged, so that lets the gloves air out and dry overnight.

Did you leave them in a plastic bag in the sun or something?

Leather needs to be let dry or it rots, I use leather gear in all weather conditions but I hang it up to dry & try not to let it stay wet too long.

clean them with a damp sponge & soap then let them dry & try a wax on them (not shoe polish, something like Nikwax cream (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nikwax-Waterproofing-Wax-Leather-Cream/dp/B001S7THI0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_1).

If they get that wet again leave them somewhere to dry in the shade (not direct sunlight) & well ventilated

Use dish washing liquid and the sponge like the person jsut mentioned and jsut hang em up somewhere after a wet ride in a DRY area. Moisture breeds that stuff!

dry them after you get home. dont let them sit wet in a dark place.

What alex.s said...once they get wet move them into a dry area with something holding the opening of the gloves open. I sometimes use a fan to circulate air inside of the gloves for a few hours, then I switch to the outside. It may take 3-5 hours to have bone dry gloves. You may also want to look at some of Nikwax products...they do a good job.
