I dont know if this has been done before but everyone post your pregens with a list of what you have done to them.
First is the silver 05 ninja i bought for my fiance. got it with 15000 on it and it has never been down and is in awsome shape. its been lowered with flushmount signals fender elimination and gearing change. Picked it up for a steal.

Second is my 07 ninja got it with 4000 miles had been wrecked but i fixed it pretty well. It was wrecked on the side the pic is of. it has flush mounts fender elimination and twobrothers exhaust. getting a 15t shortly. Also got it cheap

2003 Ninja 250. 6K miles. I've brought it down in my alley after hitting some sand.

- Added extra brake lights in the empty pods in the tail.
- Changed the bar ends
- Installed a Freeway Blaster horn

I have more to do. I have all the parts to convert the front reflectors into running lights, and to change the turn signal connectors to molex connectors. I also plan to paint her this winter.

Check my sig for everything I've done to my bike! There's a little too much to list :o

The only things that aren't listed correctly are my fuel injection conversion and k&n pod filter :D

I'll try and post up a good picture next time I'm on an actual computer.

OK here's mine, an '04 with ~15k miles.

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff519/ninjamunky85/CIMG0057.jpg

Mods include: BT-45s, '08 J-model rear shock, GS500f fork springs, 15wt fork oil, rear fender chopped, LED brake lights in extra pods, smoked pod lenses, custom flushmount front signals, 15t front 42t rear JT sprockets, Pro-grip grips and tankpad, Mike's sport shield for cold weather/ touring.

Whew, I think that's everything.

dbking321

how do you like the suspension in your bike. I have been thinking about stiffing mine up

ninjamunky85
July 26th, 2012, 05:24 AM
It's not bad. The shock from an '08 250 was a nice upgrade for the 50$ I paid for it. It raised up the rear a little, and makes riding 2 up much better. It's also better when the pace picks up in the twisties. I haven't messed with adjusting the preload, I weigh 145lbs and it's been on the first setting since I installed it.

The front forks are a bit too stiff, even though the springs are still softer than recommended for my weight. I definitely don't worry about front end dive anymore. I will probably go back to the stocks springs at some point, but keep the heavier 15wt oil.

If you can find a good deal on a shock go for it. I like the J-model shock because it's made for a bike of similar weight and power, but plenty of people go for ones from other bikes. Then pick up a bottle of fork oil and you'll be good to go.

BTW with 90 series tires and the new shock I have to put a 2x4 under the centerstand to get the rear tire off the ground.

what a chance to pic whore my bike of course ill share... its a 2000 with a little over 10k and climbing everyday. Only real mods are flushmount front turn signals and under lighting.

RE: stock fender

i'm thinking of buying another one cheap on the 'bay so I can cut it and modify it but still keep the stock fender just in case.

The thing is i want to keep my turn signals in the back, i don't want to integrate them into the tail light. Plus, I don't want to spend more than 30 bucks on the whole thing :P

choneofakind
July 26th, 2012, 08:41 AM
How much would it cost to ship? I still have my stock fender I'm happy to part with for 30 shipped, I'll just have to get a box for it and ship it. But I won't do it if shipping is like $25 or more

How much are the eBay sellers asking for shipping on a stock fender?

Oh PS the only thing not stock about my oem fender is i cut the wires to the plate light. Bit that shouldn't matter for you if you're going to hack it up

My pregen. Kinda a old pic. It is still a work in progress but I am going for a modern day cafe racer look. Future upgrades... clipons, possibly K&N pod airfilters, different taillight. The list goes on and on. Haha. I am currently in the process of painting the gas tank. Just failed at using bondo for the first time on the gas tank this evening . I have to sand it all off and try again this weekend. :(

I looked at the double bubble before I bought my windscreen, but mine is taller and wider than the double bubble, and cost a lot less. It doesn't matter though, since you can't get Mike's Shields anymore. Too bad :( ,cause they were awesome.

My 2000. Bought it with 2845 miles. Just turned it over 6k miles. So far all I've got done to it is I changed over to GP shifting. I've got EX500 levers and clutch perch waiting to go on and Pirelli rubber and Vesrah front brake pads coming in the mail. Hopefully by next season it will be all boy-racer'd out. I've got a very good idea of what I want to do to my bike now. ;)

Here's My 88 ninja. I have done quite a bit of work to it to get if from the very sorry state I purchased it in.

When I picked it up:

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k38/jschatte/before.jpg

Now: (excuse the dirt)

http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k38/jschatte/after.jpg

A rough idea of the work I have done to it:
-ALL Maintenance (oil/valves/plugs/all new hoses/coolant flush/carb sync/new clutch cable/new battery/blead brakes)
-Replaced Carbs
-Fender Eliminator
-LED Tails and signals (flush mounts) and supporting mods
-Misc wiring (repairing harness)
-Installed and balanced new tires
-Extensive plastic welding and repair to front fairing
-All new body hardware (bike came with no hardware at all)
-Painted bike (bedliner)
-Rewelded frame and kickstand from "modifications" done by previous owner

and thats about it so far!

heck yeah!!! I wanted a sport bjke since I was like 5!!! Got my license and a job and bought a bike when I was in high school. 3 years later, I still have her :)

Check out the giant Trance line. The X1 has the oversize head and a through-axle fork with fox shocks and pretty good components. Of you're looking for carbon, the Trance line also has the option of carbon with the Trance Advanced and Trance Advanced SL.

That's what I'll be looking at next. Or if I want something capable of drops and more than xc, the Reign is where it's at. Or the trek remedy. People really like the trek remedy. American made baby!

Edit: also worth checking are the cannondales with the lefty fork. They're impressive as xc bikes go. Don't let the fork fool you, they're very solid and very capable for xc riding. I got a chance to talk to and ride with the owner of one when I was at a local mtb park. He loves it and says it's more rigid than any of the standard forks he's used and he totally doesn't even notice that it's a lefty

Thanks everybody! :D It was a fun little project and I like it more than when it was stock. Well almost. I kinda miss the little wind protection that the front fairing and windshield provided. But I rarely ride on the interstate so it isn't a big deal. This whole project has been a slow process but it's finally coming back together. http://http://www.ninjette.org/forums/showthread.php?t=100916 Sometimes crashing your bike can be a good thing I guess. and here's a cool one in all the fog last night. Unfortunately this is the clearest one that I got, because in low-light mode, the camera has to be perfectly still... but it shows that there's not much errant glare from my HID's. I got enough vinyl in the right places, and the hi/lo kit allows me to have a high beam and low beam that is pointed down more. I'm still thinking about doing a projector in the headlight to completely eliminate the scatter, but this is pretty good until I get around to that.

choneofakind Nice pics! I am very jealous you got on the track this summer. I hope I can somehow get out to a track next summer. But the chances aren't high. Your bike looks nice as well!

And thanks! I put clip-ons on her monday and it made it a different bike! It feels like a SS. Same riding position as my friends R6. I need to get pics of them. I was thinking of getting the rearset adjusters before I got the WC clip-ons but I don't see the need for them. Idk, they might still be nice.

Here is "Jinna" my 2007 Ninja...first pic is at Nickajack Lake in TN...second pic is near Suches, GA...third pic is "Jinna" with her big sis "Tra'Shell" (a Hayabusa).

No serious mods...she is my commute bike...the Busa gets all the attention when it comes to mods BUT the Ninja got a stock black exhaust, new windscreen, added Twisted Throttle Rack, red chain, and flush mount turn signals.

dvannoy what are you thinking in the ways of tires? I have Pirelli Diablo Scooter tires and love them. They keep the stock sizes and are uber sticky :)

I have used Bridgestone BT45's and they were great for the first 2000ish miles, then they started wearing badly. (The front tire scalloped badly) Those handled very well though, my only issue was the wearing.

The Diablo's are better than the BT45's for turn-in and feeling planted mid-corner. They also flick back and forth quicker. Just my :2cents: on tires since you were talking about needing new tires and I see you have the Dunrocks on there.

Yes dunrocks must go!!!! hahaha. The bike seriously handles so goofy with them on there. I'm kind of torn on which tire to go with. Still working on doing research. I was looking at the BT's and head read about wear issues you mentioned so that kind of threw those out. Kind of leaning towards the diablos currently. Just not sure how different its gonna be going with a 90-series over the stock 80's. Any input on that?

choneofakind
August 22nd, 2012, 03:03 PM
The 90 series tires make the speedo accurate (nice) and make the bike behave like it would with a 15T front sprocket (also nice) The compromise is that the 90 series tire weighs more and resists tossing the bike around a little, but that's only noticeable right when you swap. The bike is still very nimble

choneofakind Okay from that picture it seems cool! Good job! Remember, it's all about presentation. That first picture was bad. You couldn't even see the hugger over the wheel (well you barely can). You thought about painting it?? Green, purple, silver?

choneofakind
September 3rd, 2012, 04:32 PM
yeah I've thought about it, but I suck at painting. The whole idea of primer and then paint and then clear seems rather involved to me...

I've done my share of priming/sanding/painting model rockets, but have only had varying degrees of success with it. Paint is also expensive when I'm looking for track money.

Check out the last post I made in this thread. There's a rough DIY shaped up in my last post. Might as well have SOMEONE read it

Did an oil change, coolant flush, brake fluid, new lighting, spark plugs, carb sync, e.t.c. Most importantly, my pirelli sport demons got mounted:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v200/GrilledCheese33/E3852D5E-A147-4148-8338-DBA59A2B6556-130-000000A37AA1E383.jpg

Only pic I have of them on the bike is here:

I have put 100 miles on them so far and all I can say is holy crap! The bike is still extremely nimble but really feels more stable and planted in the turns. Ride is much better as well. Gearing is more usable imo, and I like that the bike is slightly taller due to the taller tires. All in all, i'm super impressed. It runs terrific after the work I did over the weekend and the tires were really the icing on the cake. Now I just need more time to ride and enjoy it!

choneofakind
September 6th, 2012, 05:38 PM
Word!

Now you see why I call the oem tires Dunrocks???? I use Pirelli Diablo Scooter tires. They're just as sticky as the Sport Demons, but cheaper, and they are the stock sizes, so the bike is still super light weight and flicks back and forth uber quick.

I haven't had any issues with the Diablo scoots getting slick. I've heard at the track, that the Sport Demons can get a little oily.

dvannoy
September 6th, 2012, 06:01 PM
Yes, and dunrocks is a great term for them. The difference is amazing. I am no longer scared to lean hard into turns lol. As far as them getting slick, i'm strictly a street rider for now, but i'm not against getting into track days. So once that time comes i'll have to update!

choneofakind
September 6th, 2012, 06:04 PM
Glad you're liking them. Just be cautious through turns still. Remember your MSF course; Slow, look, press, roll. And don't be dumb through turns just to get a little more speed.

dvannoy
September 6th, 2012, 07:33 PM
Appreciate the advice, and i am extremely cautious still. On the stock dry rotted tires, turns in general made me cringe a little. Much more comfortable now. Every time I ride some of my course comes back to me haha.

My bike is almost purely a commuter, so I'm pushing it off until I need it (or I find a great deal) so it doesn't jump into my student budget :o

Also, I repainted my hugger with shiny black "paint for plastics" I had lying around. I've used that on my OEM chain guard and its stood up to a couple months of use so far.

The surface of the hugger is pretty rough and ready for paint and if you let it set properly you shouldn't need to clear coat it.

Jono Have you personally used that stuff before? My throttle and turn signal housings are pretty gray from age and I was wondering if that would work. I don't want to darken the white lettering and the cut off switch though.

^^^^ do those tiny mirrors work? where you get them?

Once you learn where/how to look out of them yes. They came with my bike. You cannot see directly behind you, which you can't with stockers either. I love the wide angle they give because I can see someone in the next lane over who is passing. You can also see upcoming headlights on the road at night too. I didn't like them at first until I got used to them. They also have additional turn signals up front, and led's around the glass that light up at night when you signal.

The glass says www.stmachine.com on them, so check that out!

haha yeah I found out that it's pretty easy to kill the battery when playing with a new headlight, only takes about 20 minutes. Go figure. So I jumped it off a lawnmower battery and it worked just fine.

In retrospect, I should have moved the battery before the picture was taken.

that bike is baller, what have you done to it (other than removing stuff) and what have you removed?

where is everyone getting these ninjette.org stickers? I want to get 4 (2 for my track 250 and 2 for my 300)

no chone! your bike is an example to everyone of what a perfectly clean pregen should be if it's taken care of religiously and the only mods are tasteful keeping in line with the original vision of the bike.

Don't forget his 300 motor. So pregen frame, 300 motor, and newgen/300 suspension and wheels?

I wouldn't go minimalist unless I crash and ruin the plastics. Even then, I'd go ask Chris's friend Seti for some tips on fairing repair. Word on the street is he's pretty good at that.

I want a 300 at some point. Or one of them newfangled Yami's that are in the rumormill. Or whatever small sport bike KTM has in the works. Or or or or or!!!! :D I want all the motorcycles!

Sorry I shouldnt have said hybrid earlier. Meant that its a pregen frame and fairings, mixed with newgen 250 front end, and zx12 front fender (currently working on that), ninja 300 motor, and ninja zx600 rear shock

Here are some pics. Work in progress still. I already got the lower fairing on with some cutting and working to make the front fender fairing fit. Let me know what you guys think. Ninja 300 motor is pretty nice for sure :)

Glad to hear you're sticking with the small displacements. I feel kinda sad when ninjetters buy giant, heavy supersports; it's like they've left us!

I'm totally prejudice though. I've never ridden anything bigger than a 500CC standard. All the things I love about my ninja are worse on bigger bikes though. I love that it's light. I love that I can work it hard even on a ride to work. I love that it's quite a raw bike - simple - breaks, engine, throttle and not many robots in between. I love that it gets pretty good fuel mileage despite the fact that I'm heavy on the throttle and heavy on the breaks.

I'm jealous of how the scooters can more easily nip between cars and tight spots than I can. It must be a nightmare on bigger bikes.

I think the only thing that draws me to the bigger bikes is the sounds. MMmmm http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/212/d/a/Mmm_Happy_by_zakarranda.gif

I pulled all this crap out of her,
https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/705x529q90/84/img2012062400289.jpg
it was strobe lights that went on and off at random...

so i took off all the tacky barb wire stickers and extra vinyl and polished her up.

it even came with a handy untraceable license plate that i got pulled over for

I'm giving you creative freedom (that tends to work out for sheer awesomeness) and it would go on the left side slightly above the "scorpion exo" closer to the back. I'd say something that goes with the theme of the helmet "demon" and "ninja" at the same time, I'd prefer it to be in color and pop and if it worked with the red cardinal sticker that I have on the right side it would be even better but it doesn't have to. Ideally it would be green or red (maybe a green ninja w/red eyes?)
Basically whatever you think of that works with the themes, demon or ninja that would pop from a black/silver helmet. Your work gives me no doubt that giving you creative freedom is a good idea.

http://www.jafrum.com/ScorpionEXO1100StreetDemon-e.jpg
yea it would go behind/below the visor and slightly above the back of the "scorpion exo" wording. Ideally the little demon face right behind the visor would still be visible.

I subscribe to the idea of someday displaying my helmets as I rotate them out of use due to age/crashing so having a custom sticker on it would just make it more special to me.

that is a really small space, if i get around to it i love ninjas and have done a few but nothing that small since i hand draw, cut, and spray these stickers the smallest i have ever gotten them is these squids

That size works for me, if you want to do it just hit me up. If not it's fine, I just think it would be really cool to have a custom sticker like that on my helmet. I could easily put it elsewhere on the helmet (the back) to get more space and get a ravens/orioles sticker or something for the left side to flesh it out a bit. Just send a PM or respond in this thread if down the line you feel like making one.

I dunno. I feel like since I got this bike I've been buying parts every week and I'm sick of it and just want to ride. I cleaned and lubed the chain about 400 miles ago and oil change about 900 miles ago. I love working on my bike and fixing it but at the rate I was having to replace things I just had to spend too much money... the last thing was the $280 tires and I just... no.... go away

I do actually have a brand new oil filter for the next change and a couple quarts so I won't have to be spending any money come oil change time :dancecool:

when I first bought it, compared to now...

most noticeable changes are red bar ends, yellow signals, pirelli sport demon tires, 2 bros exhaust, red ninja decal on the lower fairing, spray-painted the passenger peg holders, red wheel rape, removed the passenger pegs, and the un-ripped seat.

not noticeable differences include fork swap, valve adjustment, header sanding/painting, replaced the front fairing and headlight, the brake light is red while the turn signal lights in the back are grey, new chain and sprockets, replaced all brake pads and the front rotor, clutch sensor switch, spray painted the chain guard.. lalalala

Well, at the very least you've improved the bike a lot with the things that you've done to it.

Ummm. You might want to protect that wiring then. Water gravel dirt salt, etc etc. All bad for electrical connections.

Except that's only a temporary solution. It gets brittle and gooey after time and cracks and breaks.

HID Headlight

Bixenon retrofit/carefully placed vinyl or are you blinding people?

AlfredoGonzalez
March 12th, 2014, 08:47 AM
I had to tilt the headlight down a bit to avoid blinding people, it was still really bright though. I had a friend sit on it and I walked about 50 feet away, then 100 feet away and looked back at it.

My low beam was bright, but not blinding. The high beam on the other hand, that one was looking into the pearly gates.

choneofakind
March 12th, 2014, 09:07 AM
When I did that, I had terrible light aiming. There was tons of light in all the wrong places and still too bright to oncoming traffic.

So I went with a bixenon retrofit. Much better solution. Don't be that guy who blinds traffic.

Ok this is one with the lower belly fairing on and my zx12 front fender, moved the saddle bags a bit so I can better fit a passenger.

But so far I am satisfied with my 1990 pregen. :D

Thanks took a lot of work. Thank you for the good deal on the headlight and the brackets for it. That helped a lot with the project :D

It keeps inline with the Kawasaki idea of a ninja: black with hints of obnoxiously bright colouring! Stealth.

P.S. I do like the orange.

You've created a very cool and unique ninjette.

Back in May 2014, I picked up a 98 with 27k miles on it for a great price. The P.O. did nothing except put gas in it, and changed the oil, I think, he did this for about 20k of the total miles.

Needless to say it needed a lot of TLC. I am no stranger to rebuilding bikes, I did my 91 EX500 which was a basket case for sure to say the least, here is the link to see that build:

https://picasaweb.google.com/100652783894348389871/1991KAWASAKIEX500AkaZX5RLazarus?authkey=Gv1sRgCJCB6ffS-973wgE

With that said I went through the bike, repairing, replacing, & modifying as I went, with the exception of the engine/transmission that seems solid no noises or smoke.

Here is a link to the evolution as told by pictures.

- New gen front and rear end swap with brakes and fender
- airtech headlight block off (took forever)
- woodcraft rearsets and clipons
- ssr preload adjusters and fuel cap (venting issues may remove)
- homemade tail light replacement plate
- full muzzy system
- ebc floating rotor (ordered the solid one and this one showed up from amazon)
- galfer brake lines
- race tech fork internals
- hagon shock until I get the fox tcr back from rebuild
- homemade dog bones to get the rear up
- removed the gauge shroud to clear levers
- Chinese lever guards
- thermobob

Probably forgetting some things.
