Interesting. I've never seen a Gyro mounted camera, but this is pretty sweet!

what exactly was he doing at 1:21? did he miss a shift?

ducducgooseit
September 7th, 2011, 01:26 PM
@ 1:21 I think the gear didn't positively engage and he hit the pedal again.

However, me thinks Tim has driven around the ring at least once before.

And, I must give Kudos to GT4 because it has made me familiar enough with the Ring to be able to follow where the rider was which is pretty good seeing as I have never set foot in Germany.

Very cool, never knew they made gyro cams for bikes. How do you think he has it mounted?

Take it to the... wait, it's already on the track...lol. Sweet video... and an incredible machine!!!

September 13th, 2011, 08:48 AM
Wow, this guy really knows that track.

He only had one scary moment at 4:42, maybe a few revs short of a perfect downshift and the rear end started to wiggle.

And nobody thought to clean the dead bugs off the lens cover before the lap started?

TheJimmyEnglish
September 13th, 2011, 12:41 PM
Bug clean up pre video would have been nice

But damn the "urine sample" type of front brake reservior! It makes the whole thing look like the world's fastest drug-testing lab specimen delivery service.

This bike is a beast, but hate the windscreen. Busa killa!

the video is not working for me

sombo
February 10th, 2012, 07:41 AM
Nope, not sped up, he's just going that fast. That race is quickly becoming the gold standard for testing both vehicle and driver in the racing world.

Edit: I guess he fixed it while I was watching it after I posted my original response lol. :p

waited to long to fix it.

Don't think that is sped up at all. That bike does ~180 and he is hitting that in the straights.

I've been up to 150 mph in my cage and I can tell you that the tunnel vision effect very much remindes me of going to light speed in Star Wars. I do believe there is a little fish eye going on with the camera.

I love the gyroscopic view, really captures the lean angles.

choneofakind
February 10th, 2012, 08:15 AM
He sped it up on the straights and brought it down to normal speed for the turns. His hand movements and the sound of the bike give it away.

February 10th, 2012, 08:18 AM
Is it working now? i havnt done anything to it but some people can view it it seems its working for me :s Heres the link if it isnt http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slx0EmJo85c

wow i must be a whole different experience and a whole new skill level to be able to manovour and control the bike at that speed

choneofakind
February 10th, 2012, 08:21 AM
I know right? He's at full lean at just about full speed in a few of those long sweepers. That would be amazing.

Is it conicidence then that the lap time quoted is 7:50 and that is just about the length of the ride in the video?

I think the sound is distorted to eliminate the wind noise at higher speeds. Either way, definately a cool video.

No, it wasn't edited at all. What you saw was what really happened, no video trickery.

choneofakind
February 10th, 2012, 08:36 AM
I guess so? Now that you mention it, I dunno how they managed to get the video the right length. I mean there is that warning and credits, but not for THAT long of a time. :idunno:

But the audio is definitely higher pitched and his hand movements are definitely enhanced looking when he's on the straights, and the video jumps ahead. Not smooth like if it was straight through.

choneofakind
February 10th, 2012, 08:46 AM
Hmmm maybe they just futzed with the audio to get rid of the wind noise then, cuz I just timed that run with a stop watch, and got 7:50.43. I stand corrected Sombo. I guess my visual issues were just with the fishbowl effect of the camer.

I missed thw beginning of the video.

Was that a 250?

Rare beautiful day in Germany.

I hate graffity, it's hard to read at that speed.

Is that a Kawasaki ad?

I love those gyro cams! I might have to get one.

This is something that cannot be explained. It must be experienced! Crack 12-15k rpm in 6th gear on just about any modern 600 sport bike and only then..... will you know.

Lap of Nürburgring Nordschleife on a ZX-10, filmed with a gyrocam. Stunning footage. 7:50 lap is epic, done by Bridgestone factory rider Tim Rothig.

Well after watching that I think I have to sell my bike.... because clearly what I'm doing is NOT riding it. Apparently what I'm doing is the equivalent of sitting on it and making engine noises in my head....
