Hey guys. I was thinking I would put a cigarette lighter adapter socket (that's a long name) on my bike to charge my phone (crappy battery) or use my GPS on a long ride. I've seen it done before, but I didn't like the location of having it mounted on the frame. Sooooo.... I put it under the rear seat in the little tool compartment. The wiring looks factory with an in-line fuse holder. Put in a 10a fuse to start with, should do the trick. I'll get some pics as soon as I can. Also, some part numbers. I know it was a Bell lighter socket from Advance Auto. It has a nice little cover over it, but won't be needed for weather proofing because it's under the seat. Oh, and there's plenty of room for all my other stuff I want to store in there too.

great idea. have wondered about doing the same thing on my bike.

about water-proofing, that toolbox/bag under the rear seat is soaked everytime after ive washed my bike, so its not 100% water-safe under the seat there. I think the cover will be useful ;)

Good to know. I guess I just have never taken it out in the rain/washed it. I think I can hear her calling me now... wash me... wash me...

Great idea, I am also debating about doing this, although I don't have a great need, the only reason would be fore GPS and I have had no reason to use it on my bike so far, though I may start taking her away on weekend trips :D.

Anything I put under my cowl that has any importantance at all (insurance, etc) all go in ziploc plastic baggies for that very reason.

And a big bag will keep it from getting lost down the inside of the fender.

Never found the bumpers from the seat

I've never taken my bike out in the rain either, but i bet its waterproof under the seat when its raining, somehing else would be disappointing i must say. But the problem is washing. Then water comes from the side etc.

hehe, you better wash her then.
thats half the fun having a bike realy in my opinion

12V Cigarette Lighters vary in durability. My suggestion is to get one at a Marine Store like BOAT/US or WEST Marine. Their internals are designed to hold up salt water and other nasty stuff.

My motto is that it has to look factory or better. I'd take pics of the wiring, but you would never be able to tell it's there. I wired the positive to the positive terminal on the battery routed up where the factory terminal cover is. There is an inline fuse holder too that is hidden. Then the negative is grounded to the chassis so it's hidden as well. I taped the wiring harness I made with electrical tape the same way the factory harness is covered so it looks... ta da... factory!! I still have plenty of room for little doo dads and/or my extra set of gloves. If ya'll absolutely have to have the wiring harness pics I'll get them for you, but at this point it'd be the 4th time I've taken it apart so I'd rather not.

Thanks guys!! I appreciate the nice comments. I just got done shimming my needles and removing the snorkel. I think my next mod is going to be to gut out the stock exhaust. I found out if I want to use my GPS I'll have to make a longer cable for the GPS unit. No biggie though. As for my phone, I have a Samsung Upstage II. It's got to be the worlds smallest phone, so no worries with it fitting in my "trunk." I would imagine most anything would fit back there. Just with less room for other goodies.

Talk w/ HKr1 about gutting the stock muffler. Nicest job I have seen to date.
