Here's a pdf of that auction. For craigslist, ebay, and anything similar where the original page is going to go away in a short time, printing it to PDF makes sure we know what we were talking about if we come back to this thread in awhile.

Wow that is sad seeing a Black bike salvaged. :( But I am curious as to why the insurance company would salvage this bike if it is still rideable?

If the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the bike, insurance companies declare it a total loss. They then pay you the value of the bike as settlement. You then have the option of "buying" the bike back as salvage for a small sum. The bike is "supposed" to be re-titled, showing it is salvage. The fellow in the ebay ad states he does NOT have a title, but will provide a bill of sale. This is something to look out for.

In many states you cannot license a bike for street use without a title. This particular bike could only be used "offroad" (read that as only on a track) in Virginia. Each state DMV publishes "salvage" title rules.
