I started hearing squeaking up front. Could it be the wheel bearing? Maybe I tightened the front wheel too tight after changing the tire. Brake rotors rubbing against the pad? The bike now has 10,050 miles.

yeah, start there to investigate, if that's not the source of the squeak, post up and we can take it from there. :)

Well it might ALSO be your front brake pads. I had long since loosened my front axle nut and at around 9,000 miles it started squeeking. I tackled the easy maintenance first and I pulled the pads and there was literally a little over 1mm left on the pad :O ! Threw EBC HH pads in and no more squeek. :p

OT- EBCs any better than stock?

I haven't noticed TOO much of a difference (Then again I'm probably not a good reviewer on it as I don't have the 'standard' brake set-up). They do seem to have a greater range of braking (low speed to high speed they aren't phased) and they dissipate heat REALLY well!

I really rode the bike hard today on GMR with Kuro and Pipe. After about 5 minutes the rotor didn't have any heat coming off of it. The flip-side is that you do have to heat the pads (basically the stop-light riding you'd do to warm up your tires is sufficient). The braking is greatly diminished before they are warmed up. For the extra couple of bucks they cost over stockers I'd suggest them...

It'll be handy for someone with stock brakes to chime in if/when they replace with the EBC HH's still *wink wink*

I haven't used anything but the stock kawi brake pads yet. FWIW Gary J was unimpressed with the EBC HH pads on his '08 for track use, and in fact preferred the Kawi pads.

Braking:

I’d been very impressed with the “one-finger” braking that I’d found was possible on the new bike, from the very first street ride. As a result of taking full advantage of the good front brake during the 4K street miles before heading to the track, I found it necessary to replace the almost-gone pads before heading up to Infineon. Having had good luck with EBC (brand) “HH Sintered” pads in the past, over the course of nearly 90K miles on the “Old-Gen” Ninja 250, I had purchased a set for replacements to the OEM pads on the new bike. Unfortunately I was quite surprised to find that the initial bite of the EBC pads fell WAY short of the OEM pads! The EBC’s would get the bike slowed down effectively, but it really took a lot more physical lever pull pressure, to get the job done. I’ll leave the current set in until they eventually are worn and need replacement, but am going to ante-up for the more expensive OEM pads, next time around. Who’d have thunk that stock OEM pads, on a $3,500 “beginners-bike”, would be so good from Kawasaki?
