In the youtube comments lots of people seem to be saying that there was a big gouge in the road that the front wheel dug into.

Maybe that lightened up the back wheel while he was accelerating and then the back broke traction because of that.

All I kept thinking was "where is his gear?" That, and flashing back on having to help a friend back up onto a hiking path and having a similar experience as he did when he tried climbing back up to the road.
