Anyone try the Givi Tanklock tank bag on the Ninja 250? I'm not sure if the mounting ring fits the 250 so I e-mailed Givi.

I've been using one of their topcases since 2000 and love it. It was on my 1999 SV650S, 2003 VFR800, and now resides on a spare back seat on my 2003 ZX-6R. I'm in the process of coming up with a mount for the 2009 250 as well.

I want a tank bag for the 250 but am not sure what to choose.

I'm interested to hear what GIVI says about this. I like the fact that the bag is firmly attached to the bike but I wsih that it LOCKED with a key. This is the one ( TPH02-TANKLOCK (http://www.giviusa.com/soft-luggages/Tank-bags/TPH02-TANKLOCK)) that I'd choose.

Also wish it was a HARD bag.

I think that all the Kaw's use the same gas cap and that the BF04 fitment kit should work for these on the 250... but.... they ain't cheap!
Let me know what happens: Model, price, source, pics, and a review.

Did a parts search... the ZX-6R has the same part # for the gas cap as the 250R... :thumbup:

Looking closer at the parts diagram you posted for the 2010 250 and 2010 ZX-6R, it shows the 250 gas cap listed as 51049-5007 and the ZX-6R as 51049-0030 but the Givi Tanklock ring might still fit. I`ve been reading reviews and everyone seems to love the Givi setup and they`ve had luck installing to bikes not listed on Givi`s site.

The other bag with a similar setup I was thinking about is SW-Motech/Bags-Connection. They are priced higher than Givi but I'm not sure the quality is as good. They offer optional setups wired for electronics which is a nice touch. I read reviews from owners who have used them and Givi and they prefer Givi.

I'm hoping Givi will get back to my e-mail and offer other tank bags in the future. I would like one that offers a specific GPS area (bigger than current iPhone compartment) for my trip from New Brunswick to Manitoba, Canada in September.

I'm betting they are the same. Simple solution is to measure the cap diameters and screws distance, center to center, on the 250 and 6R . If thery're the same it's gonna fit. Let me know how it goes.

Still wish it locked to the bike with a key. It's a pain to always have to carry it around.

Unfortunately my bikes are 4000 kms (2500 miles) away and I won't be with them until late April when I go back to my flying job so no measuring until then. I'll also have to look up the gas cap part number for my 03 ZX-6R. I actually have the stock cap here with me because the bike has a keyless Vortex cap on it now.

I read an owner's review of the Givi setup and he mentioned locking would be nice but its still harder to steal it compared to a magnetic or strap mount bag. He said most people would have no idea how to take the tanklock bag off, unless they were familiar with it.

Where are you now? And like,,, how far are you from a dealer???? If I get a chance I'll stop by the kaw dealer and measure it myself cause I'm curious too.

Yeah, I agree but it would still be nice. The other thing to worry about is some jerk with a razor blade. I still think it's the best bet on the market.

As far as the wiring goes, you can still run a wire to the bag; it's going to need to be stored when not in use but that no big deal. That cord going to the SW-Quick Loc looks wierd when the bag isn't in use.

I am way up north in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada and no bikes at any dealership here, just snowmobiles. I'm not a fan of cold weather but am here because of my wife's job. I do have my CRF450R here to play with and might have to get a ski and track for it because there aren't any tracks for the dirt or to use my supermoto setup. 3 more years and then time to head "south". Thanks for taking interest in my post. I'll let you know if/when the fine people at Givi ever get back to me.

I've not had the pleasure of making an aquantence with that lady. I've not been in the cockpit of anything snice early 1982 shortly after getting married and while on a WestPac deployment to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. :( $$$ and a hectic deployment schedule once I returned kept me from pursuing aviation and advancing my ratings beyound, single, multi, commercial, insturment rating and ground intstrutor ticket. Oftern wonder if I should've persued a carrer in the air... but I didn't want to become a "Cab Driver".

A lot of my 600+ hours were in a Beech T-34B at the Aero Club at Cherry Point (about 150 or the 600) with a short hop in the Beech Starship being one of the highlights. Others include some "taxi time" in a Texan and an F4U, flying a 172 into Bagio City at 4251' a half dozen times

Sorry "Old Guy". I'm just seeing this post now. I started my private licence back in 1992 so have been flying on and off for 20 years. I do fly the Cessna 337 as a birddog/patrol pilot with a forest fire suppression company. I also fly as a spray support pilot with the 337 and got some seat time and spray practice in the Cessna 188 last season. I will be flying a Piper Aerostar this season, along with the 337, 188. My first flying job was flying skydivers in wide body Cessna 182s. I enjoyed it a lot and still fill in when needed. The 300hp 3 blade is a fun machine.

Back to Givi:

Givi finally replied to my e-mail with this:
"Thank you for your interest in Givi Motorcycle accessories.
For all Canadian pricing, warranty, and availability please contact our
Canadian importer."

That was a long wait for no information but thankfully the Canadian importer replied in less than 24 hours with this:
"For the ``Easylock`` tank bags. There is no mounting kit listed for your models. Various reasons, but the kit 076-BF04 is a common kit used for ZX6R 09-11, ZX10R 10-12, Z1000 and Z1000SX (instructions attached). This may work if the diameter of the tank cap is the same as these models. Plus care must be taken to have enough room for clearance between the handle bars and tank bag used. The latter reason is usually why some models are not listed. The 3D TPH02 tank bag may fit, but a T480 may not. Thank you for your interest in Givi Products."

No definite answer but at least its something I guess. I am going to mount my Givi topcase in the spring and revisit the tankbag later in the summer. My local dealer in New Brunswick should be able to help and keep lots inventory in stock so might have something for me to try when the time comes.

reviving an old thread but today my BF04 fitting kit and Givi TPH02 arrived. Sadly, I can confirm that the BF04 kit (which may be right for many Kawasaki models) is not going to fit a 2011 Ninja 250R:

The holes are in the wrong place (look like they're for a 5-hole system) and the flange is also not wide enough even to drill the correct holes :-(

I will now try the Ninja 300 fitting kit (BF14 I think) as having seen photos of both tanks I think that one will be the same as the 250R - at least the number of bolts matches, hopefully the diameter also...

Thanks for the update and sorry to see it didn't fit. I ended up getting a tail bag from someone on this site and also have a spare rear seat and mounting plate for the Givi topcase I use on my 636. I really only wanted the tank bag to mount a GPS and think I might pull the trigger on a Givi GPS mount I saw at a dealership yesterday instead.

I am pleased to confirm that the Givi BF14 fitting kit (intended for the Ninja 300) does fit a 2011 Ninja 250R.

This is the TPH02 fitted - I think it might intrude slightly for very low tuck, but I think it will be OK for me. I do think that any other size tanklock bags would have to be carefully tested for fit as the tank doesn't seem to be huge on these bikes.

how do you like the case? Has it held up well, no problems with the locking ring?

Sorry for the very slow reply... Yes I still like that case and in fact have a few to choose from now, depending on the luggage capacity I need. I most often use my Givi Xstream 15LT when commuting but sometimes the smaller one for just pleasure rides.

No issues with the locking ring so far.
