Yeah I know it sounds weird, but let me explain.

Saturday, I was riding the new 2008 Ninja 250, I hit a tight left-hander that goes up hill and I low-sided the bike very quickly right after the apex, the crazy thing was.... as I was sliding on my left leg and still holding on to the bike I PUSHED up with my leg and lifted the bike back up on to the tires, they caught and it picked the bike BACK UP!! I was barley able to hold on but I managed to pull myself back up and I rode it out!!!

I even scraped up the left blinker and handle-bar but nothing else other then the side of my left boot and leg on my leathers, the fairings are untouched!! I was totally amazed at what just happened, my friend was a turn behind me and said that he could hear the slam and scraping metal when I went down, and was amazed that I was still riding when he cought up with me wondering what happened.

I always wondered if it was possible to save a low-side like that, and for me, that question has been answered and put to rest... I am a very experienced rider, and I think it was my calm attitude during the crash that helped me pull it off.

Cling,

Great job! I don't think I will ever have that problem, as my "training wheels" won't let me lean that far! ha ha

In my MSF class, while riding a dual sport Suzuki, I leaned too far over in the 135 degree turn. Just when I was about to go down, I thought "Might as well go out in blaze of glory, so I hit the throttle!" Damned if the bike didn't stand straight up!

Congrats!

I've wondered that myself, but didn't feel like being a test subject, so thank you!!! :)

very nice save. If it was like in the vid, how did your gear fare up? Need to get a new jacket/pants? or just the shoes?

I think I might stop riding around in my sneakers and buy a proper pair. :P

pants and boots should be a requirement before you get on the bike to do any "serious" type of riding... maybe even "not so serious" riding, too.

I was looking at these (https://www.teammoto.com.au/onlineshop/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=4848&category_id=326&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=15) for a set of jeans with kevlar re-enforced, and then go buy some shin/knee and hip amour to sow in/velcro? on the inside. and these (https://www.teammoto.com.au/onlineshop/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=1555&category_id=332&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=15) for a set of boots. Really just looking at traveling to a mates place or to and from uni, so no real hard racing. Recon that'd be alright, or should I go something different?

Troy - any protection is better than none! I think over pants might be better than the jeans, but again, anything is better than nothing!

^ Low enough to drag boot pucks :)

Nice reaction. The bike god's leaned in your favor this time around.

Wow - maybe I'd consider it extreme part scraping, but not a low-side then.... unless it were me, than it would most likely have been a REALLY bad day.

seen videos of guys literally riding on their boot/leg and then pushing themselves back onto their wheels..crazy!
Glad you are okay, boots did their job! They are still in great condition too :D

If you watch closely the shots where the bike is coming toward the camera, you can actually see him counter-steer.
Will have to remember this clip the next time that conversation comes around again.

Dude, I just wanted to let you know you are my idol. I've always wanted to slide a bike sideways on slidepucks that are on my suit and drift around a corner all crazy like
