View Full Version : Sunrise/Sunset Thread
BlueTyke January 23rd, 2009, 05:38 PM This idea is stolen from another forum.
Because we have a nice spread of locations I thought it would be neat to have a picture thread dedicated to pictures taken of Sunrise or Sunset.
You are more than welcome to post as many pictures of each as you would like, no limit. Please keep it to those two topics though! Please make sure they are your pictures!
To start... here is one I took today, no tripod so its a little blury

noche_caliente January 23rd, 2009, 09:03 PM thanks Sunny - I was mostly playing with my new camera and trying to show someone the snow from Monday that was left on my driveway, as they were planning to visit - love the features on the camera - makes night shots great!
minizoom January 23rd, 2009, 10:16 PM I took this pic from Little Beach, Maui. That's Molokini Crater.

Cling January 24th, 2009, 08:54 PM Hehe, you guys got some great pics, but you know that the horizon line should be level right? If you have photoshop its really easy to fix. Use the ruler tool, draw a line across the horizon. Then click 'Image' then 'Rotate Canvas' then 'Arbitrary' and clock 'ok' it will auto level your horizon lines. Nothing will ruin a great sunset/sunrise pic like a totally off wack horizon line ;P
Alex January 24th, 2009, 09:03 PM :D You read my mind when I saw my pic posted, so I rotated it. Not quite as simple using GIMP as Photoshop, but almost as easy (you just have to crop afterwards).

That might be true if you live somewhere totally flat - but if you live in the mountains where the land is steeply sloped, that's not so true....

ninjabrewer January 30th, 2009, 06:21 PM Middle east that is, I took this while in Iraq.
1st one is during a bit of a wind storm and the second is one of my units aircraft coming back.
NB.
ninjabrewer January 30th, 2009, 06:27 PM more...
The first 3 was during a little dust storm, reason that it is the color that it is, last 2 was during a more normal time. I'm not sure of the time of year any of these were taken.
NB
edit: These were around mid Nov to mid Dec.
ninjabrewer January 30th, 2009, 06:33 PM and one more. This isn't exactly a sunset. That sorta kinda bright spot just above the light tower, that is the sun. This was taken mid afternoon during one of Iraq's famous dust storms, a mild one.
NB
edit: This was mid April, just after we got extended for 90 days. Still 5 months to go.
BlueTyke January 31st, 2009, 09:47 AM Wow Chris thanks for sharing those!
ninjabrewer January 31st, 2009, 11:05 AM Wow Chris thanks for sharing those!
you are very welcome,
Question to the group: I have used pics found in the past on my computer as the desktop and screen saver. Would anybody mind if I used the ones on here for that? I wouldn't use them for any other purpose.

I can't imagine that anyone who posted their pics up here for public viewing would have a problem with you using them for personal use. :2cents:

ninjabrewer February 10th, 2009, 12:32 PM Hey Chris... I know some people have reasons for it but I am curious... Why do you have the date stamp on your photo?
Off the top of my head, I don't remember. I know there was a really really good reason, I just can't remember it..........Mad Cow

Sailariel February 10th, 2009, 02:24 PM Looking at all these pictures, It is difficult to comprehend that this is a motorcycle forum. There is some real talent in this group. No more motorcycle goodies for me for a while--quite a while. Ordered a Pentax Digital SLR. The Owner`s Manual is literally a book. I will also need to get a new computer. Digital photography with Windows 98 is like trying to run a Ninja on fuel oil.
OldGuy February 10th, 2009, 07:31 PM What a great bunch of people and pictures. Here a few from our Lewis and Clark road trip in 2006.
Sailariel February 10th, 2009, 08:49 PM Don, This is absolutely incredible! I can`t wait till I get proficient with ny new digital. Have worked as a pro with 2 1/4x2 1/4 and 35mm format doing weddings and some fashion stuff. Digital is a whole new medium. Hopefully I will be a quick study and will be able to share pictures with "Y all", as they say in the South.
OldGuy February 10th, 2009, 10:05 PM Thanks Alex - nothing special compared to many of the others. These were with a Casio EX-Z750. About the size of deck of cards with 7.5 meg. I've got a great Konica film SLR from the early 80's but film has become such an expensive medium now. I'm starting to get an itch for a Nikon D80. what did I just say
jdesiano1 February 11th, 2009, 10:19 AM Sunrise out front in East Tn
Alex February 11th, 2009, 10:24 AM Off the top of my head, I don't remember. I know there was a really really good reason, I just can't remember it..........Mad Cow
Almost all digital cameras store the picture date/time in the EXIF information that is stored within the photo file (along with a bunch of other neat info on the photo, including just about all the camera settings and options used to take that picture), so I'm hard-pressed to think of a reason why it needs to be visibly printed within the photo itself. :idunno:
But let us know, whenever your Mad Cow goes into remission. :D
BlueTyke February 11th, 2009, 10:55 AM Jessica that is a beautiful picture! Thank you for sharing that! Those colors are so vibrant! I love sunsets like those!
