I received an email Hurricane Racing Co. Ltd. (http://hurricanerp.com/product_search) about their new air filters. Here is a small excerpt from the email.

"....The difference between our filters and other brands is that we are using stainless steel as a filter medium.The steel we use is high grade SUS-304 from Japan, to produce the finest steel mesh on the market. It has the advantage over cotton as being less tedious to maintain; it can be pressure washed, blow dried and replaced without the need of any specialist products or oiling. Thus, making it truly a simple to maintain, lifetime filter.

Our Ninja filters have become very popular under our Hurricane main brand in South-East Asia, but also especially in Indonesia, under our Ferrox brand. You may find some good feedback and comments already from the Indonesian web forums.

Terrible idea. I bought a cold air intake off eBay just for the pipes for a custom intercooler setup and it came with a similar filter. I never used it and never will.

It does nothing to stop dust/dirt particles. It just like a screen on your screen door.

Then why not use the same logic as K&N and put filter oil on it?

K&N is nothing but open-weave cloth. What's the diff?

K&N filters get impregnated with oil. The oil is what filters, not the cloth.

There's nothing for the oil to stick to with the metal filter. That would have to be some really really fine metal mesh to keep crud out of the engine.

The OP shows a steel and a cotton filter. I personaly would choose the cotton filter.

Didn't say it was a great idea, just found it interesting, I doubt I'd stray from k&n though
