I do a lot of touring/motorcycle camping. Since buying my ninja this winter, I have been working on getting it set up to my liking. I was toying with the idea of welding up a rack and getting some hard luggage, but decided I like the simplicity of soft bags.

Here is what I have come up with so far:

All luggage from Walmart (I had a gift card to use up). So far I am pleased with the setup. Holds my tent, sleeping bag, stove, rain gear, and all my other misc. odds and ends I take with me. I also wear a DSLR backpack to carry my camera equipment.

Can't wait to hit the road and give it a test run.

I want to get a set of soft saddle bags for my pregen. I already have a duffel bag I can strap on top. What saddle bags are you using?

They are the Paul jr. Saddlebags from walmart.

i'm looking at the cycle case rider saddle bags.. they seem really nice.

@OP, you could get a ventura rack or something and a hard case that would add some extra storage

I have soft sided bags but the thing I don't like about them is that you have to put paint saver or painters tape on your side panels so it doesn't rub leaving the finish marred. That's a pain the butt so I went with SW Mototech rear rack and the JC Whitney top case. I throw my cloths in the case. My tent , sleeping bag, thermorest and stove go in a small waterproof bag that lays across the rear portion of the seat like yours.

I have a Corbin seat which I like and I occassionally put my Alaska but pad on it.

GPS , magnetic tank bag and we're good to go.

I probably did about 4,000 miles just on trips to Daytona, Fingerlakes and Moto GP from Ohio last year. Bike works fine. Wardie

like it. wish the new gens rear fairings werent at such a sharp angle, makes it almost impossible for soft saddlebags

There are bags whose supports install instead of rear pegs. Check out the Cargo section I believe someone listed them there. They would solve the problem of the sharp angle.

soggybottom how much did you pay for the saddlebags? and i too would like to know which tank bag that is. how does the bike look without the duffel bag on top? and now that some time has passed how have the saddle bags held up?

I think those Paul Jr bags run about $40 at Wal-Mart. I got mine off a seller on CL for just under that. Though with the newgen tail they really don't fit all that well. Pregens have it made for luggage.

The bags look like they can handle tins of stuff.
Seems like the best low buck low tech setup!

Tool and tire repair kit?

I'd like to know what you consider your typical load out for your trips.

I ride the finger lakes and most of NY .
And I plan on doing some Canada next summer.

This summer I went with a book bag tank bag and a sleeping bag bungied to my tail haha. Minimal at best.

ha...ok, cool pic ! how do we access the pics to the "mini tourer" in this thread ? I am wanting to explore that option for my new pregen....where do you get those rear racks fer the pregen ?

Two possible problems with images.

1. User has removed pictures from their album. In which case, there's really no way to get them.

2. Install "Photobucket Fixer" extension for Firefox or Chrome and it modifies the HTML code stream in-line to change the URL for Photobucket images so they display correctly. Note this may not work for long as Photobucket may catch on and break things again.

Yeah, they used to be listed under "Classic Accessories" as a brand, but I think they've been replaced with the "Paul Jr." name.. but the pics look like the same thing or similar.

That's for sure, Johnny. I might pick up a pair so my daughter has a little carrying capacity on the 250. At that price they don't have to last much more than a riding season to be worth it.
