Case in point: Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez was the one to beat so far this weekend at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, topping all practice timesheets on Friday (http://www.sportrider.com/news/146_13070_motogp_laguna_seca_friday_practice/) and Saturday. The MotoGP rookie—who had never ridden at the track before, as the Moto2 class doesn’t visit this circuit—was comfortably on top of the timesheet with about four minutes left in the QP2 qualifying session when he crashed in turn six, losing the front and luckily emerging unscathed. With so little time left and unable to ride back to the pits, Marquez was not able to better his time.
