Just went over the 300 mile mark and I wanted to get an oil change in before the 600 mile service.

Would you recommend going full synthetic right now?
I'm looking at grabbing a bottle of Castrol 10w40 and a K&N oil filter. Air filter too or should I wait on that until I'm ready to do performance mods (exhaust and tune).

It don't really matter, just a bit of wasted coin if you ask me.

The bike's been running great.

I remember reading a couple of threads about metal shavings in the oil being the main reason to get an early oil change in.

However, if waiting until the break-in service is no big deal then I'll wait.

You could do it now if you want, there's no harm in it. I'd do synthetic at the 600 mile one though just to save a few bucks. Change the oil filter the first time too to get those shavings cleared out. Don't do the air filter unless you want to do performance stuff. My 250 air filter is still stock.

Absolutely, go full synthetic as soon as you want. The myths about break in aren't true.

I believe that some of the higher end car manufacturers are putting full synthetic oil in their cars from the factory.

Why not run it csmith12 ?

I switched to full syn at 602 miles, first oil change.

The only reason why you shouldn't put it in right now, is if you are going to change it again in 300 miles, there's no reason to put the really good stuff in just yet. But if you want to spend the money, it won't hurt anything.

I am not sure what your asking? I was just saying save the money because of the next oil change is coming soon.

I thought you were saying not to waste your money on synthetic oil period.

Ah, I reread what I posted. I can see how someone would take it that way. My bad.

To be honest synthetic oil might be a waste of money. Considering how many miles most people put on their bikes.

Syn the moment I bought the bike. No issues whatsoever. And that was 5/6 yrs ago

^^ This is my biggest concern. I'm in school now and don't commute. So, mileage will be fairly low.

Edit: Though I'd prioritize for the health of the motorcycle.

If you aren't going to be doing too many miles than synthetic is a cheap way to keep the bike healthy longer. If you don't change the oil too often it isn't that much of an expense.
