FACT: You don’t need to spend top dollar to get top quality. These winter gloves are proof.
They cost £49.99 at the beginning of 2009. They’ve endured three-and-a-half freezing winters and thousands of miles of use, including regular long trips on the motorway in rain, sleet, icy fog and snow. They are still 100% waterproof.
I can’t tell you they keep your hands warm on long winter rides. What gloves will? You need heated grips or muffs for that.
But your hands will at least stay dry, which is half the battle.
I recently rode for an hour-and-a-half in heavy rain and was surprised to note they still don’t let in a drop. They’re showing their age a bit. The left index finger has a small hole in the leather outer, worn by the clutch lever. The waterproof membrane evidently remains intact.
The gloves are still the same price today but I was slightly disappointed to note the waterproof membrane has changed. The ones in my gloves are made by a British firm called Porelle. The latest version uses Buffalo's own membrane. Then again, who’s to say it's not just as good?
