View Full Version : reasonable to have a 250 and a 300?

I have a 2011 250 but I really like the looks of the 300. I don't want to give up my 250 as I have too much invested and really like the bike. I know I've seen members that have both models. Can I really justify having one of each? Just looking for some input/opinions on whether they are different and fun enough that after buying the 300 I'll still want to ride the 250. I have larger motorcycles, but can't seem to shake the small bike syndrome!!

Send me your credit rating, age, gender, marital status, annual gross income, debts and commitments, location, number of children in your care, nature of work and criminal record and I can tell you for sure.

Edit: Do what you like, if you can afford it.

Nope, not reasonable at all. Once you buy the 300 you'll realize how awesome the 250 is and just feel like you should cut your loss and get rid of the 300 as easily as possible. I'll gladly take it off your hands. ;)

Its up to you. Doesn't matter if it's reasonable or not.

Make one of them a track bike :p Honestly if my 300 were a working street bike right now, I probably wouldn't bother riding the 250 on the street. If I had one as a track bike only, then I would keep both. Jiggles also has both and could give you his opinion on it. Nothing wrong with having more bikes though haha.

I kept my 250 to use as a track bike. If you add a 300 to the stable it's likely that you'll find yourself riding the 250 a lot less though, since the 300 is so awesome.

I have a 2007 PreGen and a 300...and yeah, my 250 has not been getting much action since the 300 came home. I am trying a track day soon and if the bug bites, as many say it will, that 250 will surely become a track bike.

UUNNNLLEESSSS someone will give me $1,500 cash firm for the 2007 PreGen with 17,000 miles...then she is gone!

I'm considering the same thing so am also interested in hearing opinions from people who own both bikes. I already have my CRF450R motard for the track so won't be tracking the 250. I am considering selling the DR-Z400SM to buy a 300. I am also considering a Duke 390 and used Versys. I had a blast on the 250 this past summer so the 300 is certainly still in the running.

Is this what they mean when they refer to "first-world problems?"

Although the limit of my experience is a 250, I pretty much agree with the general sentiment of others here. Consider yourself blessed that you can even have a "dilemma" like this.

If you want a 300, get a 300. If you want to keep your 250, keep your 250. It's your money brah. Justification is not required.

Ditch the 250. Pointless to have such "similar" bikes. Do you still own/ride the other bikes under your name?

I still own all the bikes listed under my profile, still ride them as well as the couple of scooters I have in my stable.

I stand by my original statement then. You will prefer the 300, and have no reason to ride the 250.

+1 on track bike.

Considering all of the other bikes you have in your stable, I'd say.....yes, it's a little unreasonable to have both.....

Unless money is no issue, in which case I hate you.

None of the above. Keep the 250, keep the 300, buy an R6 and turn it into a track weapon.

No no no, he needs to crash the 250 and then get an R6. Get it right!

Similar dilemmas in our house except it's: Is it too much to have a two 250's, a 300, and a 636? What about adding in a Duc 796? I need a bigger garage...

If you can afford it, then by all means get the 2nd bike.

Ahhh, that's right. In that case I think we're both up for an R6 any day now

Why? Seriously. That's like having a mid 2000s mustang with the 4.6 and while having the new 5.0. The 300 is an evolution of a ninjette. It isn't a different bike. Unless there is a racing class you need the 250 for I don't see the point. Obviously do as you please but you did ask.

I just have one question; how big is your garage and how do you have room for all the bikes you have already?

My dilemma will be this; when I eventually do get a SS, I definitely want to keep my 250 as it is worth much more to me than the money it can bring. However I might not keep it due to garage space. I have the entire 2-car garage for my toys. Currently: 1 car; 1969 VW Karmann Ghia, 1 Ninja 250, two bicycles, toolbox, various car tools, etc. it isn't tight but not huge amount of room left.

I am potentially in the market for used 250 (can't decide if I'm just gonna start out on a 300 and hope I don't drop it too bad) do you have a craiglist post, or possibly able to send me a PM?

Thanks for all the opinions and entertaining comments! RedPepper64...funny you mention a Duc, another bike I also have been considering. It's similar in nature to my Striple, yet different. My son says he doesn't think I'd like the thump of the engine and it requires lots of maintenance. I'm in the same boat as others that have modded their 250; the price someone will pay me for it is not close to what it's worth, so I'll just keep it. Track bike is probably the most reasonable solution for the two fiddy.

The garage is plenty big enough to fit all of my toys, two and four wheeled. Did I mention I also happen to own 12 different bicycles, one road bike which costs more than any one of my motorcycles..just sayin.

I also have a '13 Boss 302, but I still want an '03 or '04 Mach 1...crazy I know!

By the way, I'm not a dude.
