Thanks to the up-to-the-minute news source that is Twitter, it has now been learned that newly crowned AMA superbike champion, Josh Herrin, will ride in Moto2 for the Caterham Moto Racing Team, which will enter its debut season in 2014. He will be aboard a Suter chassis.

So excited to be a part of the @MyCaterhamF1 (https://twitter.com/MyCaterhamF1) Moto2 team! It’s official folks! Let’s do this!

Herrin sent out the tweet above just moments ago, confirming the rumor many already suspected when Herrin first announced he was joining Moto2 next year.*In the press release issued today ahead of the MotoGP Malaysian Grand Prix, it was stated that Caterham and Suter would jointly develop the chassis over the next two years.

Caterham is better known for its four-wheel exploits, as the company’s road car, the Caterham 7, is legendary among sportscar enthusiasts.*More beneficial to the Moto2 effort, however,*is the team’s involvement in Formula 1.

“Bringing together the two different worlds of F1 and Moto2 can bring to us (Suter Racing Technology) opportunities to develop certain components such as aerodynamics in different ?ways and therefore to improve performance,” said Eskil Suter of Suter Racing Technology. “The collaboration will add value to the sport and us as a manufacturing company.”

Johan Stigefelt will be the team manager, though the rest of the team structure, including the team’s second rider, will be disclosed at a later time. In addition, the Malaysia-based team will continue supporting its local rider,*Zulfahmi Khairuddin, as he ascends up the Moto3 ranks.

Perhaps even bigger news is Caterham’s intentions of bringing its racetrack technology to the road.*Also in the press release it’s*stated, “Motorcycle products by*Caterham Bikes*will add to its already established four wheel road car partnership with*Renault*and*Caterham Cars.” Further,*Dato’ Kamarudin Bin Meranun, Co-Chairman of Caterham Group, confessed, “we will soon be making further announcements about our plans for taking Caterham’s two wheeled interests from the track to the road.”

Could this mean Caterham will start producing aftermarket products for production motorcycles? Or better yet, a whole new sportbike altogether? The odds look good, but only time will tell exactly what will come from this announcement.
