hey all,
test rode a 300 for the first time today. rode about 30 miles. within pulling out of the lot i found i couldn't comfortably position my boot on the rearset as far back as i can with my stock '09 250 without hitting the exhaust shield. my feet are size 11. what is everyone else doing? do you get used to it? anyone dimpled the shield in a way to allow more room, or can the shield come off?

tia,
parker

The shield comes off, but it doesn't look so nice with it off to me. The best bet to cure this is an aftermarket exhaust. I found the same thing happened to me when I had my 300.

I love the Akrapovič… so sick. Area P is very nice as well.

Yeah, I was having the same problem too until I ditched the stock exhaust. Yoshimura rearset adjusters didn't help any.

Nice! Love that can. And the fact that it's a full system - oh yeah!

I guess the cheaper fix is a slip-on - my fav being the Akrapovič. But yeah the boot heel thing was one of those weird things I noticed right away too.

thanks guys. this will be a reasonable reason to ditch the stock exhaust.

out of curiosity how does it remove? screw, rivet? anyone with a photo they can share of the OEM muffler to rearset distance? i'll be a 3 hour ride home when i do pull the trigger to buy one- i may want to pull the shield just to be comfortable.

I think there's just 2 screws that you'd remove with an allen wrench to remove the shield.

Doesn't bother me so I just roll with it, hasn't burned my boots or nothing

It just takes some getting used to. I kept putting my boot on the exhaust shield for the first 2 days, but after that I kind of got used to it. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue in Spring when I go for 6hr+ rides..

do you get used to it?

you could say that.
