I bought a clapped out 2011 Ninja 250r this afternoon. How can a 2011 be clapped out you ask? If you ask that, you probably have not spent too much time around bikes or idiots.
What I bought: 11,995 miles on bike that went down. Right side rearset is slightly bent, all the cowling is done, there is a stripe of cord down the middle of the rear tire. There are surface scratches on the shorty carbon fiber exhaust of unknown manufacture...I paid $1000.
I went to a track day and rode a borrowed bike a few years ago. I finally decided to commit...
I have a sweet 1982 Honda Express Scooter I ride the 2 miles to work so this is going to be a track only bike. Plus, anything faster then 27mph on the street scares the desire out of my wife so, well, track here I come.
I have had bikes in the past: A 1984 Honda vfr500 Interceptor that I loved, 1982 Honda CX500 Turbo that was a pig, but I paid $300 for it and sold it for $1800 90 days and 1500 miles later...plus a few dual purpose bikes and a slew of MX bikes.
I have had too many broken wrists and concussions riding MX. Most of those happened at half speed. So yeah, I suck at MX. I love it though...
While I likely won't race, I am looking forward to riding hard on track days. I will likely move up to a bigger bike next year, unless I am having enough fun here...
Short term, I would love input on:
-Rearsets: Is there a consensus on best value? I'm not cheap, but I don't overpay for a name...
-Tires (I would think stock size is adequate, anyone beg to differ?) I need a model...
-Should I run naked? Is that legal on track days? Seriously, I'm new.
-If I shouldn't run naked, where is the best place to get new plastic?
-Any must do mods?
I am going to prowl the forums and see what I can find out.
Thanks,
Scott
