View Full Version : What's for dinner? ...the Food Thread
kkim April 3rd, 2009, 10:00 PM Inspire by Chris' thread (http://www.ninjette.net/forums/showthread.php?p=40189#post40189), I thought it would be interesting to see what others eat. Being that we are a growing community, I'm sure the diverse geographic, as well as ethic make up of our forum should provide a real diversity of foods.
So post up what you happen to be eating tonight or whatever you feel would interest others. Only one rule, it has to be a picture of what you are eating and not something from a setting somewhere else on the net.
It can be your favorite meal, snack, dishes, desserts anything that you might want to share with your fellow ninjette members.
yum... almost dinner time... gotta go see what we're having.
TnNinjaGirl April 3rd, 2009, 10:02 PM I had chinese for lunch, skipped dinner. Beef with broccoli, wonton soup and steamed rice.
kkim April 3rd, 2009, 10:05 PM lol... the picture is supposed to be of what you ate... did you eat fido?
sometimesido April 3rd, 2009, 10:06 PM Good idea.

TnNinjaGirl April 3rd, 2009, 10:06 PM Chinese. Can't be for sure what was in it. We are missing a block dog though...
kkim April 3rd, 2009, 10:08 PM well, that is an unusual and diverse menu. :D
islanderman7 April 3rd, 2009, 10:15 PM She ate dog Adobo.
TnNinjaGirl April 3rd, 2009, 10:17 PM In all seriousness, has anyone had dog? I've had lots of stuff, but never dog that I can recall. What's it like?
sometimesido April 3rd, 2009, 10:25 PM I was going to say when I saw the picture, you have Korean in your family?
Some restaurants in Korea serve dogs.
Now, before you say anything...
1. It's really ancient recipe.
2. Not many people eat it.
3. There are two different kinds of dogs in Korea. One as a pet, and other as food.
And no. I've never had em.
kkim April 3rd, 2009, 11:27 PM We picked up dinner tonight. Ahhh... local plate lunches! :)

miks April 3rd, 2009, 11:52 PM I've just eaten dinner, but I have no picture. I ate rice with pork and eggs, followed by a cabbage broth/soup thing.
And yes I have eaten dog, coming from a Vietnamese background we tend to almost eat anything, I've eaten many weird things on my trip back to Vietnam. Including snake, snake heart, rat, dog, sheep brain, lizard, crocodile, and deep fried insects.
You only live once, so I ate every weird thing I could get my hands on.
TnNinjaGirl April 4th, 2009, 12:24 AM So what does dog taste like?
CaliGirl April 4th, 2009, 12:37 AM I had home made yaki soba with tofu and some pan fried gyoza... :yumyum:
miks April 4th, 2009, 12:45 AM Depends how its been cooked, I had it slowly braised with like lots of spices and seasoning, so to me it just tasted like any other red meat, but closer to deer meat but more tender. But goddam, it was de-li-cious!
zartan April 4th, 2009, 03:51 AM So what does dog taste like?

komohana April 4th, 2009, 09:29 AM usually every other friday night (lastnight!) wife and i go to this one place for 'local kine' grinds. it's a chinese place...a LOCAL chinese place.

TnNinjaGirl April 4th, 2009, 10:14 AM I would love to have some actual Japanese, Thai or Chinese food. The south has some good mashed taters and meatloaf but we can't do oriental. Oh man, I about forgot Jambalaya. It's just different when a Cajun makes it. So good....

Verus Cidere April 4th, 2009, 11:44 PM Man! All that food sounds amazing! I had to work tonight, so I got a double-cheeseburger, chili-cheese fries, and some ice cream from work. I swear! If I keep up like this I'll be 300lbs the day after my metabolism dissappears. But for now, I can burn it off sitting on the couch, much less all the stuff I do. :D
zartan April 5th, 2009, 12:40 AM We had thai tonight yum!! pad thai and cashew chicken.. brown rice and dragon green tea..

miks April 5th, 2009, 03:03 AM Here you go, my mum's noodle stir-fry. It had prawns, some type of mushrooms, and broccoli. Nothing special as she didn't go shopping, just used stuff we already had.
Tasted yummmmmy!
kkim April 5th, 2009, 10:58 AM Looks yummy, Mike.
The extra ingredient that made it taste like magic is the love she sprinkled it with when she was cooking. You are a lucky man.
Hope you gave her a big hug and a kiss for whipping something like that up for you. If not... "Go directly to jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200."
Never overlook your greatest gifts.
:)
kkim April 5th, 2009, 03:14 PM sniff, sniff... mmmmm, do I smell lobster coming up next??? :D
OldGuy April 5th, 2009, 03:15 PM Kelly - do pictures before cooking count? We were at our fish monger yesterday getting the fixings for tonight ciopinno dinner and he had an awesome lobster claw in the freezer. If you could guess the weight within 0.1 lbs it was yours.
I guessed 2.3 and it was 2.25 - yuuuuuum. I figure a pound of butter should do it. :D

sometimesido April 5th, 2009, 04:23 PM That claw is HUGE!!!!!
M-Oorb April 5th, 2009, 04:40 PM Cooking is def. one of my passions. Lets see tonight I made grilled spaghetti with steamed meatballs with a bbq tomato sauce. Very tasty but tomorrow I gotta hit the gym nice and hard...the sauce alone had 1 pound of smoked applewood bacon in it...and yes I smoked it myself. You would be amazed how many of my neighbors I have met at my school from just people walking down my street and smell me cooking dinner. Guess what I cook is better than their ramen :p I find the key to cooking is using as much fresh ingredients as you can. I think I'm the only kid at Rutgers who grows his own rosemary, basil, sage, parsley, and cilantro. And no I'm not a dork I just love food :)
Heres a link to the recipe if interested http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/michael-chiarello/grilled-spaghetti-recipe/index.html
miks April 5th, 2009, 06:50 PM Wow, look at that claw - imagine the beast that it was attached to. Must have been the size of a hippo!
kkim April 5th, 2009, 08:45 PM Speaking of that, shouldn't OG be done with dinner yet??
Where's pics of the cioppino??

Hey - can I help it if the system didn't want to upload my pictures last night.
Here you go food critics.
First saute some onion and garlic in olive oil, add a few spices.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=56&pictureid=1008
Add a large can of plum tomatoes, cup of clam juice, and some white wine and simmer. The longer the better but 30 min will do if you're in a hurry.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=56&pictureid=1001
Have your fish ready to go.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=56&pictureid=1002
While the crab is in the pot, add the halibut first, then the shrimp, and and the very end the scallops. I cut the crab up after it was cooked and added to the rest to get the flavor in.
http://www.ninjette.org/forums/picture.php?albumid=56&pictureid=1003
When the rest is ready plate up and enjoy.

its purplish looking and tastes like beef but umm, also like shredded pork? ieno, but my uncle told me it is a high density meat and told me that was the exact reason why dog sledders chose dogs :p

tapdiggy November 21st, 2009, 11:16 PM I don't have pics, since supper was an impromptu affair. But get your mind around this:
Chuck roast cut into strips, slowly simmered in teriyaki marinade with stewed tomatoes and julienne-d lettuce. All this in a buttered toasted tortilla topped with fresh lettuce.
BlueRaven November 22nd, 2009, 12:17 PM It's like a baby lobster. Lobstette, if you will.
The actual term for small lobster is canner which is fished in the maritimes in canada. If i remember correctly maine only fishes Market (bigger lobster). I work at the lobster plant and the crab plant. We have a steel measure thingy that we use to measure the body of the lobster to determine if its a canner or market or too small and should be put back in the ocean. My uncles are also lobster fisherman.
Flow November 22nd, 2009, 01:13 PM No pictures, but an old family favourite, zuurkool(I'm Dutch-American). It's basically fermented cabbage(homemade sauerkraut) mashed with potatoes. Also had eggrolls. Yay, eggrolls.
