Japanese tuning company Mugen announced it will field a two-rider team of John McGuinness and Bruce Anstey in the 2014 TT Zero electric race at the Isle of Man. McGuinness and Anstey will be riding the third-generation Mugen electric motorcycle, the Shinden San (Three).
McGuinness rode Mugen’s Shinden in the 2012 TT Zero, and its follow-up, the Shinden Ni (Two) in 2013. Anstey will be making his debut in the TT Zero this year. Both riders bring impressive track records in the Isle of Man TT. McGuinness is second in all-time TT wins with 20 victories, trailing only the legendary Joey Dunlop. Anstey is no slouch either, wtih nine wins on the Mountain Course, tied for 11th overall and just one behind Giacomo Agostini.
Team Mugen will be aiming to unseat three-time TT Zero winner Michael Rutter and the MotoCzysz E1PC. Rutter beat McGuinness by just 1.672 seconds to take the 2013 TT Zero, and Mugen hopes the all-new Shinden San will provide an edge. Mugen offered no details about the Shinden San, only claiming it offers more power than last year’s model.
The 2014 TT Zero is scheduled to run June 4 during the Isle of Man TT week.
