Tried a search didn't come up with much. Anybody use other options for a tach than the stock cluster and the trail tech vapor. Really don't want to use the stock cluster for the race bike and the trail tech is slightly expensive. Anybody have some good tach and dummy light set ups they would like to share?

Many use koso but if your trying to save on costs for a track bike then maybe there are other options. I am interested in other options as well.

I've been thinking of buying this one for Kit's bike but I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

If you get that then can you do a write up on it? that's similar price to the super small digital layouts that I see and the analog tach would be nice for my track bike build.

yea most go with koso but koso is pretty expensive, the other option that I've heard good things about is the danmoto digital gague which is primarily used by local supermoto riders as they converted their dirtbikes since they're small and work well with the lack of fairings. I can't really work well with digital tachometers, it just doesn't feel right but it's definitely a do-able option.

A member or a few tried to get these cheap china gauges to work but none got them to fully work. Some of the issues was getting a good signal from the tach and another was getting the speedometer to read right. For how much you are going to spend on this, save a bit more and get a trail tech vapor or koso. There is a reason people suggest them, its because they have great customer service (one guy tried sending his back to china and had to wait a few months to get an exchange) and quality. Best not to go cheap.

Other than that is getting a koso tach which is about the price of a trail tech anyways. Most tach that are out there dont go as high as 15k like the stock tach. There are smaller options but at that point you wont be able to see or get use out of those.

Yeah if those cheap china made ones were reliable and didnt take forever for returns it would be a different story. They look just like koso gauges. A shame :(.

lol and those are the cheap ones. You only get a bar for the more pricey ones. Thats why I got the trail tech. Not that expensive and had what I wanted. Koso's are an arm an a leg to get.

Having a clock on the gauge is cool too.

The Trail tech gauge is about useless for racing. We don't want to look down and have to figure out what the number is telling us for RPM. We want to see the needle on an analog tach in our peripheral view. As for the speedometer, we don't use them. No point. Only need to know if we're near redline

Well on the trail tech you can set a low and high shift light. Its not as good as seeing a analog tach but a shift light will tell you when to shift lol.

If all you want is the tachometer, just gut the stock gauges, pull the tach out and put it in something else. It is easy enough to look at the wiring diagrams and figure out which wires you need. If you want the warning lights, you can use led's or something for those.

Brett they wanted a cheap way to get a tach. That gauge is just as much as a koso. But very cool looking. I have seen guys take the stock tach and stick it in a can or similar object and looks retro and cool :thumbup:

That's actually what is done to my bike. We no longer have Kit's stock gauges so I can't do it as easily. My tach has two holes drilled into the face of the gauge and it's zip tied in place floating on the fairing stay. I tell everyone it's my analog data recorder.:bounce:

The Pegasus is way to much haha! I might have to just do without, I will probably just find a shift light and some idiot lights. Try and keep it simple. I can't say I ever even looked at the tach in my R6 race bike.

I bought the Koso RX2-NR GP Style for my race bike for $199. So far it's the cheapest digital tach I have found.

Does anyone have experience taking the stock tach and making a new box for it. I currently have my tach mounted on a coffee can lid, held on by zip ties. After I lowered my clipons I kept hitting the brake line on the gauge cluster, so I had to come up with somethng cheap

I bought an aluminum box- 3 x 2.5 x 5 inches and mounted the stock tachometer, oil light, water light and neutral light in one package. Used the stack harness and separated the rest, not used. I will post a picture when I get the time.

^^ does that really weight any less than the stock unit?

I think so, since there is no huge plastic housing, speedometer, gas gauge. Look at what I made and you decide if it weighs less.
