View Full Version : I want to go see the ocean...so I go.

Yesterday afternoon, I just all of a sudden wanted to go see the ocean.
I wanted to see the sun rising from the ocean.
For some of you, I know this is pretty easy, but when you live your life far away from the ocean, sometimes you forget what it looks like...

Checked the weather channel. Estimated time of sunrise: 6:59 A.M.
Ok, Google maps. It will take me 4.5 hours.
Let's see, let's get there an hour early.
That means...I have to leave the house around 1:30 A.M.
OK! Let's do it!

Oh, I only have one picture of my ninja and no pictures of the road. It was long, dark, interstate highway with moon lighting the clear sky...I'll leave it up to you to imagine it.

So, I guess you can move this to Off Topic if need be...

So, I pack my camera, some tools, a sweater, and wear a reflective vest since I'll be on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

64 miles from the destination. Notice the Max Speed. OH, about the speedometer being off? Yea, confirmed. around 10%...

Right before the sun coming out.

The Moon is still out!

♫ From this moment, life has begun...♫(just kidding)

Sunrise Restaurant. I searched for a breakfast joint, and this was it.

Shrimp, bacon, grits, onions, green peppers, english muffin, eggs, oj, and coffee...

Walking back towards the beach, behind me is the restaurant.

Happy thoughts...

The End

Here's a slideshow(big pics) if you want to see more pics:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/biskitsorange/sets/72157616585119367/show/

I wanted to take pictures of the roads on the way back, but I was beat. I still don't know how I made it back...

Things learned: Don't take things for granted.
Venture out, be spontaneous once in a while.
Get a back brace. Get a knee brace(for me. :()
Stop and take a break often, Stretch.
Crampbuster saved my right wrist.
Next time, sleep well and leave in the morning.
The ninja burns little bit of oil at a certain point in speedometer.(good thing I packed oil)

I hope you enjoyed the pictures.
Now if you will excuse me, I have to pass out for couple hours before heading out to my friend's cookout/MotoGP night.

Bonus: boring short video of the sunrise.

Beautiful sunrise. I see it every morning ( I get up in time, and it's clear). Riding 53 hours to get there (at 230 mph) makes it that much better.

sometimesido

No sleep beforehand.
I napped on the docks for about 30 minutes after breakfast.
Then they woke me up by turning loud music on.

I find driving/riding is easiest in the late night and early morning. Especially when you are excited to be going somewhere.

A to Z vitamin pill, 2 cups of coffee, 5 hour energy drink(no sugar), and pure will!

Edit, this was on the way back.

Sounds like you had a nice trip. I wouldn't mind doing something like this, but I can be at the sea in 5 mins and over look an inlet :p

On a side note... I am NEVER drinking an energy drink again... I had a really bad experience the other night due to them... LOL.

yeah, living in hawaii we take the ocean for granted.

when i take visitors sightseeing, and i see hawaii through their eyes, i am reminded how beautiful a place hawaii really is.

sounds like a long but rewarding trip. i think i would have had to spend the night at a motel or something.... play in the ocean, spend the day there. not sure i would have survived such a long round trip in one day.

I've lived near the ocean most of my life. The sound of waves on a beach are never routine or commonplace even if you can walk to the shore. Never doubt how a sunrise can thrill the soul. Try it in winter some time when there's ice around.

kinda weird seeing a sunrise at the beach instead of a sunset. and so cal sunsets are more romantic IMO ;)

in hawaii we can see both the sunrise and sunset from the beach :D

also, i guess the so cal sunsets are alright, but i doubt they can compare to a hawaiian sunset. :p :D

just playing around.
