I was curious how many riders wear mix match textile gear? Also is it better to have connecting pant to the jacket versus not for just everyday street riding?

Also is it better to have connecting pant to the jacket versus not for just everyday street riding? capt_bugaloo April 16th, 2009, 10:03 PM Sure, I do. The connecting zipper stops your jacket from riding up if you take a slide on the asphalt, and helps protect your back. Of course, it's a hassle if you are just going for a short ride. sometimesido April 16th, 2009, 10:09 PM connecting zipper also holds my heavy riding pants from falling off if I only wear shorts underneath on hot days. It takes 2 seconds to zip off... KVR April 16th, 2009, 10:13 PM i wear a knox gilet air vest underneath my jacket all the time. it has a long backprotector and a chest guard so i guess if my jacket rides up a little the backprotector is still there. TnNinjaGirl April 16th, 2009, 10:18 PM I have Nitro boots, Fox gloves, Frank Thomas jacket and Dainese pants. This is the gear I use most of the time. I've some A* textile pants and Cortech jacket. I also have the matching set of Frank Thomas pants for my jacket. It's nice having matching gear, but I keep upgrading as money allows. BlueTyke April 17th, 2009, 10:47 AM I have matching leathers but my mesh is mixed. I have a Joe Rocket jacket and Franklin Thomas pants... The only real reason for this is because the pants are big enough to fit over my work clothes so I could just slip those on and off without having to worry about crinkling my clothes to much... (I work in a corporate office so I have to worry about my apperance slightly) Beast April 17th, 2009, 01:02 PM i wear a knox gilet air vest underneath my jacket all the time. it has a long backprotector and a chest guard so i guess if my jacket rides up a little the backprotector is still there. I wanted to purchase this system. What is your take on it? Does it feel bulky underneath that jacket? KVR April 17th, 2009, 01:21 PM Beast, It is the best back protector on the market, because its the form fitting "contour back protector that is added to the vest. Knox also has the stand alone contour but I also wanted the chest protector in case a take a hard hit center mass. When I wear the vest under my jacket i dont even feel the protector on my back personally because of 2 reasons: 1 it contours to your specific arch of your back and 2 there's an adjustable tightening system. It doesnt feel bulky at all but with that being said its because Im an athletic bodybuilder so really the vest i have fits like a second skin. The CE level is 2 for the back and 1 for the chest protector. I feel much more safer on the track and on the streets. I've falling a few times on the track with my 600RR at high speed of 110mph wearing this vest underneath I can say it did its job. I walked away from the crash no problem. Bottomline for me, best piece of protection I ever purchased. Hope that helps. Here's a link watch the review. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBYONGzaa7c Broom April 17th, 2009, 02:11 PM i wear the icon field armor vest under my leathers now. i haven't crash tested it, but i see some fast guys wearing them that have been down several times in them. after watching that guys review of it on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdNDwusB7Cg) i'm a little less confident in it now, but i still think its a decent peice. i use to wear one of these (http://www.dirtshopthailand.com/images/proimage/040608_093411_TechBackProtector.jpg) and it was just huge. coverage was very good, but i still cracked my tail bone at least once and cracked ribs on 3 or 4 different occasions wearing it. icon http://www.indysuperbike.com/image.php?productid=111929 as for matching gear, i've never had a matching set of anything... haha Purspeed April 17th, 2009, 06:16 PM Zipper is good. It takes 1.3244 seconds to zip the jacket to the pants. KVR April 17th, 2009, 06:37 PM Zipper is good. It takes 1.3244 seconds to zip the jacket to the pants. Yeah I know zippers are good but most of the time the brands that I wear..the jackets I like but I dont like the pants they offer. miks April 17th, 2009, 08:18 PM Does anyone wear them tight shorts with padding for your hip,ass and other parts, I think I've seen them somewhere on this forum but cannot find them. Broom April 17th, 2009, 09:09 PM i have those shorts for the dirtbike. they're great. i think i'm going to start wearing them for the track too. miks April 17th, 2009, 09:13 PM Broom what are they called? And can you post up a picture please :) Broom April 17th, 2009, 09:43 PM EVS Ultimate Shorts (http://www.monkeybuttparts.com/pk4/store.pl?view_product=456) http://www.monkeybuttparts.com/Images/EVS_PP05IntimateShorts.jpg (http://www.monkeybuttparts.com/pk4/store.pl?view_product=456) those might be a little much for roadracing. the regular impact shorts (http://www.monkeybuttparts.com/pk4/store.pl?view_product=452) might make more sense. miks April 18th, 2009, 01:18 AM Cheers mate. They look great. ARF07 April 19th, 2009, 03:58 PM Hey guys I had a question about the Knox contour. For those that use it, could you tell me how well it breathes? I live in GA and it gets pretty hot here in the summer. I know any chest/back protector I get will block air to some degree, but do you know if it's too much so for fairly hot days? Purspeed April 19th, 2009, 04:08 PM Yeah I know zippers are good but most of the time the brands that I wear..the jackets I like but I dont like the pants they offer. Go to your local drycleaning shop and they'll sew you some matching zippers. ;) KVR April 19th, 2009, 11:51 PM oh man that's doable?! Go to your local drycleaning shop and they'll sew you some matching zippers. ;) Broom April 20th, 2009, 08:46 AM yeah... i've had to get my zippers altered before. connected a fieldshear jacket to alpinestars pants. the zippers worked together but went opposite directions. they flipped them for me. btw: i had a leather shop do mine, but i'm sure a taylor would be fine too. just make sure they use some decent zippers if they replace them. |
