Owner sold bike due to bad motor. New owner pulls motor and swaps in new motor and gives me old motor per request. Rumors of suggested oil starvation but disassembly reveals otherwise. Bike had less than 6000 miles on it.

Comparing what a normal rod should look like

The break down:
Rod bolt nut backs out completely and falls down into oil pan.
Rod bearing spin and burn up oil since it's no longer torqued down. Notice the dark discoloration on rod end.
Rod bolt backs out completely.
Rod cap bends away from journal and hell breaks loose.

I think the rod bolt coming loose allowed oil to escape and not lube the rod. Then it over heated and blew apart. How is the other side? Is the crank OK on that side? It made a lot of noise for a long time. Shutting it off immediately would have saved the head and block and case.

Everything else looks fine from what I can tell. I tried contacting the original owner but he's not answering. I love the new crankcase design on the 300. The removable oil pan is super convenient.

The shifter mechanism is adapted from the super sport and the cylinder jugs are nikasil plated. Pistons are flat domed and swapping to stock 250 pistons will bump up compression. I'm not too sure about clearances though for it to work.

i've you've done any work with the zx6 engine from 2005-2007 you'll notice it is pretty much a direct adaptation minus two cylinders

ITT: Engines formerly owned by people who should never operate a motor vehicle.

How did they NOT know something was wrong until this happened?

That's cool to know and "ive you've"? lol

So if we put two ex300 motors do we get a 05-07 zx6? :P

The counter balance shaft on the 300 motor is binding against the case casting from the rod cap wedging itself between it and the crankshaft. I think it's time to break down and buy the flywheel puller. LOL

So far, the 250 head and cylinder interchanges with the 300 so I'm pretty sure everything else should interchange with the exception of the oil pump and water pump due to the new oil filtering system on the 300. The oil pump on the 300 is built into the crankcase whereas the 250 is a separate unit. Oil filter media is a whole lot smaller than the 250 but you get an extra 0.7 qt (0.7L) of oil. The extra surface area of the oil pan helps out with keeping oil temps down and it being somewhat baffled prevents oil from sloshing around.

Hmmm.. is it possible there is another one?
