What is the best tank bag to get for the 250r?

I want to buy one but A good one and I want to go off what other 250 owners have not what other sv 600s owners.

That's going to depend on what you want out of it.

Are you looking for a small bag to just toss in a phone and maybe a disk lock? Do you want a larger bag to carry gloves, hat, gizmos, and a couple bottles of soda?

How do you want to carry it off bike? By the grab strap on the front or a shoulder strap or maybe a sling style backpack?

Do you want to install straps to clip it into place or just have magnets to lock on to your tank?


I use this small bag from Cortech (http://www.revzilla.com/product/cortech-super-mini-tank-bag-magnetic-mount) which has been large enough to hold my phone, GPS, and a small bottle of Frappachino. Lately, it is serving as my lunch box so its taken up with insulation, tupperware, and an ice pack.

If you want the max size that'll fit and not get in the way go with the motocentric 19. I had both the magnetis and strap model and I like the strap model more because you can stuff the **** out it and still use the straps to force it to conform to the tank shape. Don't let the cheap price or the fact that cycle gear always has them on sale fool you, the quality is top notch.

So what do I want to hold it it,

My Insurance card for the bike, my reg card for the bike. A coke, maybe my lunch for the day since I ride to work. Not a whole lot of stuff but big enough that I can hold some items if I go on a long ride and have a drink and some snacks.

This would be a little too much.

Motocentric (http://www.motocentric.com/) makes good luggage at affordable prices.
My Motocentric 14 (https://www.ninjette.org/forums/showpost.php?p=624321&postcount=10) holds a lot of stuff. Good size. Magnetic, holds to the tank strong. Also doubles as a back pack. Had it over 4 years.

+1 on the Cortec Super Mini. It comes off easily to carry with you, and is big enough for everything I need for a day's ride. Like many bags, it has a hole to thread power cords through.

I commonly carry a frozen 20 oz bottle of water, a can of Red Bull (reserve fuel for rider), a granola bar, wallet, smart phone, Ipod, USB power cords, ear buds and a tiny flashlight. I always have room left over for souvenirs I may buy during the ride.

I like this as my 250 is a 2012 se/ So it's black and red. My tank is red so it would match really well.

The magnets are very strong. I used to be afraid of magnetic bags as well, but this bag has sold me on the idea. Mine has never slipped at all. No more straps for me.

I've got a Rapid Transit "The Stack" LT Magnetic Tank Bag for sale.

It's got backpack straps, rain cover, headphone port, hydration port (hydration pouch included), and a strap in the front that you can wrap around the ignition area (saw you were concerned about the magnets).

That's a dual USB outlet that I bought on eBay. Cost was around $15. If you install connecters in the power line, it is fast and easy to disconnect when you remove the fairings. Check very carefully when installing for clearance under the fairing. There are also USB outlets that clamp to the bars.

I dig the fairing mount, but I might consider other locations. Does it come with wiring instructions? I'm terrified of messing with electrical work. My bike already came with a LED strip that I need to figure out how to get working. -_-

AFAIK the blue sea ones did not come with wiring instructions. Just two posts on the back, one pos the other neg. my current set up has the positive coming from the pos side of my aftermarket fuse box to the pos post. Then the negative wire going to the neg side of the box and the neg post. A 5amp fuse sits between the power from the battery and the positive wire.

Same item, different name and vendor. These can be mounted with only the round part, but the flange makes it more secure.

Check out RKA's line of tank bags. Made in America and quality. I was tired of magnetic so I bought one with straps. Cool thing about RKA is that the front straps are individually tied off. Sticks like a magnet but without the problems magnets present over time.

I used it on my Ninja 250 and I use it on my SV650 ;) I think it looks pretty nice, plus it always seems to fit more than I think it will.

I have the version with both the dual USB port and a cigarette lighter port. On mine the USB side failed after a dozen rides. When I took it apart I saw that internally there's a wire-wound circular magnet (choke coil?) that stands off of the board. The road vibrations caused the wires holding it up to fatigue and break. I wrote to them and they're sending a replacement USB side. When I get it I'm going to take it apart and squirt some silicone all around it and on anything else that looks susceptible to vibration damage. I'll post pics when I do the procedure.

Used it on the 250, I now use it on the ZX. Magnets are great, never had the bag move even a bit.

Lots of space, I've gone on 4-5 day trips, and easily put everything I needed in there.

Also doubles as a backpack if you want to take it with you when you leave the bike.

It fits perfectly on the Ninjette, has a surprising amount of space, stays put, and the clear pocket is nice.

Time will tell if it holds up but I've had good experiences with my Dowco covers and it was only $30.

Yes mine doubles as a backpack and I've used both the mag based and strap on versions of my bag. The magnets are strong but the straps are stronger, this means I can load the **** out of the strap bag and just wench it down tight. With the mag bag if you load it to the point of plumpness then the magnets can't really conform the bag to the tank as well as the straps can.

The motocentric stuff seemed like a cheap product(quality wise) simply I saw it list on cyclegears website first. After I saw it in person it was clear that it a great quality made product and I wouldn't hesitate to by any of their other products in the near future.
