A BIG-capacity retro-style adventure bike has been revealed in Honda patent applications.

The drawings appear to show a road-biased adventure bike, with a round headlight, hand guards and traditional mirrors and clocks.

The wheels are wire-spoke while the exhaust is set high, suggesting off-road pretensions.

The application points to the engine being a 1000cc parallel twin.

Last year Honda filed patent and trademark applications protecting the 'African Twin' name shared by the legendary XRV650 and XRV750. A new model using the same moniker with a 1000cc parallel-twin engine is believed to be months away from launch.

The new application, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, could provide clues to design features.

It focuses on the positioning of the air box, sticking out to the side of the fuel tank, a design which potentially allows the tank to be slimmer.

Honda has also just re-trademarked 'Elsinore' (http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/honda-planning-retro-scrambler/24965.html), the name given to its first two-stroke motocrosser in the 1970s, although reviving that for a big parallel-twin four-stroke seems less likely.
