I plan to do some riding this summer, and although my neighborhood is safe, I wanted a disc lock for when I'm in unfamiliar areas.
I saw a cheap disc lock on eBay; it's your typical disc lock, but includes a 120dB motion alarm.

The cost is only $7 US - but shipping to US/Canada is another $19!

It arrived today and I have checked it out. The lock seems reasonably sturdy - it won't stop a dedicated thief, but will slow down a casual one. The lock mounts easily on the front disc of my 250r. It can be locked by pressing down on the lock button, and uses a barrel-style key to unlock.
When you lock the carbide steel, the lock lets out a moderate chirp. You have 15 seconds before the alarm actually kicks in.

If the lock gets moved or bumped, it chirps a couple of times. You have only a couple of seconds to either stop moving the lock or unlock it before it starts letting out a loud siren wail.

I've just played with it a bit with my bike in the driveway, but it seems to work fine. It's not a fancy alarm, but if you just want some basic protection it fills the bill.

One caveat: the power comes from six LR-44 'watch-style' cells. The lock comes with a spare set, but when you eventually need new batteries, I wonder how much it will cost to pick up six more such cells..?

Check at the pharmacy for packs of batteries for hearing-aids. That way you get the quantity discount.

I have been using it daily for a week or so now. It's great, as when I take the bike to work I know I have a bit more protecting the bike than just the steering lock.
No issues at all; it slides onto the brake disc easily, locks and unlocks easily, and the alarm works perfectly as intended.

I have a Xenia too.....

If u go in the xena website and print out the cut out piece that u place against ur disc I tells u what fits our bikes. If I can remember right all the current models do. Price range for xena can be from $50-$100 or more.

Looks like a good deterrent. Thieves don't like alarms. Alarms alert everyone to their activities.

I wanted to invest in this but wondering, when you need to unlock it , it wont launch the alarm easy or do you just have to be careful not to trip it to go off?

normally, there is a grace period (the xena alarms come with a 5 second delay) where the alarm will emit a loud pulsing beep before it goes off. just enough time to unlock it

which xena models have you guys used? someone said most fit on our bikes but i cant seem to find a big difference in the models. are some better than others? can i get some quick reviews from anyone that has used one on their 250r?

You don't really need to hide the bodies.... just put their heads on sticks and place them around your bike. That should be WAYYYY more effective then an alarm! :thumbup:

theyre the smallest sized lock currently offered by xena (fits perfectly in our trunks!). shock sensor is pretty dam sensitive (which is good) - grabbing a handle bar will set off the alarm.

the sound is rated at 110db - although not super loud, its def loud enough to attract surrounding attention. The warning beep is actually louder than the alarm beep... who knows why?

all in all, coupled with my chain, its a great device to give me a little peace of mind.

I have the Xena XR1, the yellow one. Fits right under the strap under the passenger seat and with the tool set chilling in there too, it is quite snug.

supposedly rejects for cosmetic issues but he's sold a bunch of them and his feedback looks good so we'll see. I just need to keep the kids from sitting or playing on it. Theres a bunch of youtube videos and it takes literally like 10 seconds to lift the bike into a mini van so I guess its more a deterrent then anything else.

Yeah of course, it will stop them from rolling on it since it will hit the brake pad :p.

Even with it on, people can still load it up and take away BUT it is a good deterrent and it is better than nothing.

Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but how are you satisfied with the HongKong cheap version of the Xena, on ebay they are fairly cheap, and I am considering getting one of those instead of the Xena.

I actually disabled mine.... I can't get it to NOT go off.
